I was under Dr. Avila's care for a Mono/Di twin pregnancy. She was excellent and I grew to trust her very quickly. I can understand how some may perceive her as being very conservative, but she will advise you as she would her own daughter, advocate for your birth plans, and provide honest feedback if she feels it is necessary. I attribute the healthy delivery of our children to her vigilance and experience.

Awful human & extremely opinionated. Her practice is fear and intimidation based. She will make up her mind about what she thinks is going on with you before you even meet her, and will refuse to consider your inpur or perspective. She cannot explain anything in a simple manner and you leave her office feeling more confused and with even more questions. She lacks knowledge and human decency. She jumps to push prescription medications very quickly, even when not medically necessary. She convinced me and terrified me of "problems" with my pregnancy that were flat out incorrect. I will never see her again and was assured by my OB that will be the case. My OB disapproved of every word that came out of this lady's mouth. Not sure how she made out of medical school with such lack of knowledge and god awful people skills. Go elsewhere.

I have had two separate experiences-not by choice-with her(one due to a loss, one now with a current high risk pregnancy)both were horrific & we will never see her again. I don't think she is knowledgeable or in the right field. She scared us into thinking many things about my previous & current pregnancy that were not correct. She has a way of making you feel scared, helpless & belittled,things you never want if you are high risk. She certainly does not have ANY bedside matter. Stay away :)

Allows her personal opinions to interfere with being professional. She will talk about you to coworkers within earshot. Consults are 45-60 min bc she repeats herself so much.

Horror Show. Steer clear of her and her Nurse Practitioner.

She is amazing! Wish I had found her earlier. She helped me through preterm delivery in 2010 Stony brook residents made a lot of errors but she was amazing.

Has no bedside manner

Dr. Avila was amazing. After a scare early in my pregnancy, Dr. Avila took me on as a patient. When other doctors claimed that my baby had no chance, Dr. Avila remained calm and reassuring. She made sure to explain everything to me and to advise me on what I had to do to assist my pregnancy. On the day I delivered, Dr. Avila came to the hospital to deliver my baby when she wasn't even on call. Her expertise helped me deliver the baby without posing risks to myself.
