My partner came out of rehab and was sober for close to 3 months. He was going to his outpatient intensive groups faithfully. He developed his own routine which had kept him out of trouble. When the pandemic hit everything went down hill. He did not have the support needed to continue sobriety. When he relapsed they failed to develop a plan to get him back on track. They completely lacked structure. They failed to drug test regularly. They allowed groups to go off on tangents and talk about things that weren’t relating to recovery. He would complain constantly about how the groups were not always centered on recovery. He even informed his counselor. He asked to change his counselor because he felt as though she didn’t understand him. He felt as though she was very apathetic and the program refused to do so.My partner passed away on June 25th due to a drug overdose.I feel as though they should provide more support and structure. I worked for a substance abuse facility and when someone relapsed it was taken seriously. They were referred to an inpatient right away.Addiction is a disease. The well-being of clients should be taken very seriously and I feel as though they didn’t.
