My husband is a patient at the NY Presbyterian Liver transplant clinic. Dr. Verna is a transplant hepatologist- this site lists her as an internist/geriatrician and needs to correct that. This is the first doctor review I have ever posted. We have met with her twice and contacted her via e mail twice. She is the kind of doctor you and your friends and family talk about wishing they had. To quote my husband, who is an M.D. himself:"She is a doctor who engages in a dialogue with her patient.". She asks questions and she listens. Then she responds to what my husband or I have said. We build from there. She sat and looked at us for 45 min to 1 hour each time and never typed on the laptop. We know she has to get everything into the electronic health record- so she does that later. She apologized for running late, is thorough, compassionate, yet gently frank at times, and is interested in what I as the care giver observe and experience. If half the doctors were like her we'd all be living very different lives.

My experience with Dr. Verna has been outstanding. I value a doctor who takes the time to ask about your concerns and then takes the time to discuss them with you and not make you feel like she is pressed for time. She explains your condition in a way that you can understand and thoroughly explains your treatment, the reasons for the treatment and the outcomes. So glad to have her as my doctor. Sue Kosakowski
