Alan B. Astrow's Online Review Report Card

I can't say enough about Dr Astrow. He is a doctor's doctor. He treated my mother, and was so kind to her. When I was unfortunate and too was diagnosed there was no question of which MD I would use. It was a very tough time for me. I was scared, anxious and frightened. Through all my treatment Dr Astrow was calming, and was always accessible. He never was an alarmist and he always treats the patient and not the diagnosis and his care is so personalize!!

Dr Astrow has treated me for breast cancer for 14 years and has given me his utmost respect and expertise of health care he can make a dark gloomy day turn into sunshine he works with you in giving you the treatment that helps bring you to better health ! He treats you like family ! He has restored my health my hope and my faith in knowing there are doctors out there that are devoted to bring people back to good health and to what best fits their needs. His concern for each patient is evident !

I could not tell how he is as a doctor because my mother was unable to even see him. After a week of waiting, and two days shy of the appointment, we were told that the insurance company does not cover a consulation with Dr. Astrow. When we told them that we would pay the fee in cash(this was to be a second opinion)the appointment was cancelled because they felt they would not get the payment for a chemotherapy treatment. Now, am I wrong or is a doctor supposed to accept any patient-especially one willing to pay in cash? At the mere thought of not receiving the case should it come to requiring chemotherapy, they told my mother to check her book for a provider which would accept her insurance. This is an outrage and my next phone call will be to the American Medical Association Complaint Bureau.

If you are of child bearing age and want to preserve your fertility, do not go to this doctor. I wanted to use Lupron to preserve my fertility. He told me no because it causes complications. After my chemotreatment he must have forgot what he told me because he gave another type of answer. His assistant and nurse whom was in the room on both occasions just stood there staring in my face, not stopping him from talking. He compared me to someone in the bible that got pregnant, and told me that's not happening to me.

If you value your life, your mothers life or a friends life, get them away from Dr Astrow as fast as you can. The man is nice but he is a terrible doctor. He is responsible for the death of my mom. He failed to diagnose her metatastic cancer. It was too late by the time i got her to another doctor.

This doctor is a gem. He is well known for his ability and is highly rated. But, even better, he talks to you. An oncologist deals with people at their lowest. He is kind, takes time, doesn't leave until all questions are answered and options discussed. Despite his busy practice, he is calm and it rubs off on his patients. He helped me with 5 years of Tamoxifen, and I recommend him without reservation.

Very caring and compassionate. Spends lots of time with patients and answers questions clearly and with a lot of detail.
