Bishop Orris G. Walker, Jr. Health Care Center's Online Review Report Card

Today I followed up at IMC's outpatient clinic Bishop Orris Walker since being discharged AMA from their hospital. It has been some time since I have been to their outpatient medical facility (they were previously under renovation) and providing telemedicine services. The clinic has undergone a massive esthetic renovation to appeal to the changing gentrification demographic and also compete with other clinics like Citimed etc. that provide medical treatment services on an outpatient basis. I found the clinic to be appearingly sanitary and clean. I was checked in and seen in a timely manner (under 30 minutes) which is a vast contrast to my prior experience at this clinic. My check-in was seamless and fast. My concerns regarding my blood pressure medication and the administration of a benzo at the hospital without my knowledge or consent, were addressed and rectified by the attending physician. My medication was reverted back to the original blood pressure regimen after expressing my concerns about being prescribed a medication for hypertension that has side effects of dizziness and fainting when that was my chief complaint at the hospital. Additionally, I was offered a urinalysis drug screening to verify that I'm negative for all toxins after being prescribed medication that contained benzos at the emergency room. My only complaints about this visit are that some employees purposefully turned around their badges so that their name would be obstructed so you couldn't see who was administering your care. Additionally, some of the same old lackadaisical and disgruntled employees that are unwilling to greet a patient and offer assistance or still employed and/or not retired. Other than those two miniscule issues, my overall experience at the clinic today was great.

Ok so I'm not crazy about the wait times. However the administrative staff are pretty nice and easy to deal with. Sharon and Jeanette are awesome. The nurses are personable and very friendly. The Orthopedic Doctor Ben took the time to show me what was going on and give me good medical advice.

I have had both good and bad experiences at this clinic, but the good far outweighs the bad. While I don't enjoy to be seen by a different resident for each appointment (they never bother to even check your lungs, which is supposed to be routine), I ask to be seen by the same attending physician each time. I find him to be informed, respectful, caring, and thorough. Most of the doctors at the clinic are that way. Previously, I had been to Mt. Sinai Doctors (supposedly the best) for an issue with my hand, and was brushed off -- 'oh, it's probably arthritis' -- and had to insist on investigation of the cause of the problem. They really did not care, and did not find the reason for the problem. At the Bishop Walker clinic, I found an excellent neurologist, who made a brief examination, and gave a theory of the source of the problem, which was confirmed by testing: a slightly pinched nerve in my spine was causing the problem with my hand. Yes, sometimes the wait is long. The facilities are a little scruffy. But in general, I have had much better care here than at many other places, including when paying cash to see a private physician. And, the staff is warm and helpful.

No words to describe the horrors of this place. The administration staff are plenty nice. Just caught in a system that's underfunded, under-staffed and overwhelmed with too many patients and too much red tape. The doctors on the other hand are pretty subpar. Most are residents and not Full Doctors. And the few doctors on staff -- no more than 2-3 per shift at most (?) -- are so jaded cynical unhelpful and lacking in knowledge. You literally have to treat yourself and do your best to drag the doctor along with you, making all the test and treatment recommendations yourself. Not optimal. Avoid if possible.

Horrible service. The receptionist lied to me at first saying the doctor was in. Waited 2 hours and then told me she wasn't in and I can't do anything for you. One of the most rudest women with a disgusting attitude that I've ever came across in my life. Find some place else, they don't give a damn about you at this clinic.

I give them this rating because the doctors there try to help but it seems like they don't want to. They would just look at you and say "you need to go to a specialist" which I feel is bullcrap. Then most of the time they are really slow when it comes to letting everybody be seen so if you know you have something to do I advise you not visit this place for a doctor. You would be better off at your birth hospital

I have been going to the Bishop Orris G walker clinic since the age of 5 to attend the sickle cell program .February 23rd 2017 I was very upset and I am still fearful and really let down by what occurred at the clinic .After my regular sickle cell appointment I went downstairs to get my haemoglobin blood work done and after pricking my arm for the second time I turned on the counter at the lab on first floor near the transportation office and there was two small drops of blood on counter .Basically the nurse had touched my arm with her glove after touching the blood in the same spot she had just pricked me with the needle .However when I brought it to her attention she said the blood was dry and she changed her gloves .i consulted with some of the doctors upstairs on sickle cell floor who said viruses don't leave in air because of course everyone is fearful of such stuff however I am still going to go get myself checked out and do my blood works soon .i will be sure to sue interfaith for negligence if anything has happened to me and my unborn child .this is highway robbery it is also top of the line negligence and I am asking people to be careful watch your surroundings etc when at doctor's office labs etc .one small mistake can change your life forever

No process here. The first thing the receptionist told me was that this is a "high volume facility" and that I will be waiting all day to see a doctor even though I have an appointment. I don't know why they make appointments in this case. Already waiting for 2 hours and still haven't seen a doctor. If you have and alternative, use it. VP came out to apologize and offer crackers to the full waiting room - maybe she needs to spend less time apologizing and more time fixing the system here.

Dermatology office is the absolute worst. The wait is ridiculously long, the receptionist has a bad attitude and the atmosphere is depressing. I saw the doctor for about 5 minutes and he prescribed me something that doesn't have anything to do with my issue. When I went to the receptionist to make a follow up appointment she informed me that my appointment went by really quick because apparently people wait for up to two hours to be seen. Never again.
