This practice is awful. I started treatment because my old psych retired and I needed a new prescription. I spent nearly a year of my life of my life being treated like a guinea pig. I tried so many different medications, I spent the entire year sick. I almost got fired from my job because I was so incapable of going about my day to day life. All because I needed a new prescription for my SSRIs but was told this was not the proper medication for me. I had no reason not to trust the doctor but I really wish I had not. I ended up getting lithium toxicity and it went unchecked for months. I was not being sent for an adequate amount of bloodwork. I also got terrible cystic acne as a side effect of the medication but was never told this was a risk despite the fact that I would cry and cry over my skin. I ended up seeing a new psychiatrist in this practice who would not listen to my concerns or send me for bloodwork so I left the practice all together. A few weeks later, I got a call asking why I had a left and when I explained my concerns, they told me the psych was just not a good fit and did not acknowledge the borderline malpractice that had taken place. I should have ran after my first session. Everyone should please report this place as they should no longer have the opportunities to harm people.

I am one of the previous owners of Brooklyn Minds and am writing to clarify that we sold it to our colleague, Dr.Amanda Itzkoff, of Curated Mental Health in early April 2022, over a year ago. Any reviews after that date likely reflect the new management and team as most of our team is no longer at the practice and many aspects of it have changed. Please keep this in mind as you read them. Dr.Owen Muir and I left at the time of the sale and no longer have any involvement. My star rating reflects the time we were there as I cannot speak to anything after that point. I would have updated the practice description to reflect this change but no longer have access to do so.

The therapist I worked with here have all been nice but the people who run the company itself are extremely unorganized. They don’t explain charges, they stock up all your fees without processing them, they don’t properly submit claims to insurance, ask for credit card information on the phone. The place is SUPER SHADY. Unfortunately can’t recommend at all

They should be called Bklyn Mindless.

They are not currently taking new patients. Instead of a psychiatrist I was referred to a nurse practitioner. This is absolutely not what I am looking for when I contact a psychiatric clinic, especially one that deals with pretty severe issues. Just be aware of this if you spend time jumping through the intake hoops—you may not even be offered competent care.

This place and the sister company Curated Mental Health should be shut down.

The people who call themselves doctors who run this place are pure monsters. Do NOT seek psychiatric or psychological care from this facility, as it is run by two people who are currently under investigation for R****** a patient. Do yourself a favor and seek out help from somewhere else, because these people might ruin your life like they’ve ruined my friends life.

I’m editing this review because I feel bad now. They promptly called me immediately and gave me all my money back right away! They didn’t even make me wait days, they used Zelle so I’d get it right away! Since then I’ve developed a good relationship with them and they have been fantastic!! I was angry when I saw money taken out of my bank but they made it right and I should have been more patient. Dr Muir is the best doctor we ever had and anyone looking for a compassionate, attentive Psychaiatrist this is your guy! I have his cell number and whenever I need him he’s there for us! He’s helped my husband tremendously and we are sad our insurance changed so we have to go to someone else now but we will come back as soon as we get a better insurance. Thank you all and again I apologize for my impatience on my first review. We do really appreciate you all.

A good outfit. The staff is pleasant and easygoing. And Dr. McMillen goes the extra mile for her patients. If you're seeking TMS this is a good place to go with a nice facility and relaxed atmosphere.

Dr. Macmillan and Dr. Muir, and their excellent staff for that matter, may very well have saved my life. I'm 57 and my diagnosis is treatment-resistant major depression. Since junior high school I've been in and out of psych wards, detox tanks, rehab resorts, halfway houses, and many, many emergency rooms, and I've seen what seems like an endless parade of psychiatrists, some of them so pricey one wants to gargle Drano. Over the years they tried almost all the chemical treatments out there (both legal and less than quite legal), but nothing had a strong or lasting effect. For the last two years, though, the doctors at Brooklyn Minds have given me back to myself -- partly with the Deep TMS treatments, but just as much with interesting and perceptive discussion and by their going FAR above and beyond what the average therapist would bother to do. They've been available at odd hours, they've worked with difficult health-insurance providers, they've helped me with life choices and behavior issues, and they've done a hundred other things. I can't thank them enough or recommend them highly enough. Oh, by the way: Just now I noticed some very recent, very grouchy reviews, on a few different sites, that purport to be from different people but which sound suspiciously similar in their phrasing, vocabulary, far-fetched claims, and general nonconsecutiveness. My strong guess is that many or even all of them were written by the same person -- the mother of a patient who was treated at Minds a few years ago, who's recently filed what reads like a completely cuckoo-for-Cocoa-Puffs lawsuit against the clinic (covered in some of the local papers) and who seems to have been harassing them in other ways too, although I couldn't get anyone to say much about it. Maybe we'll find out more sometime... anyway, caveat lector, and thanks for reading my review....
