Such a positive experience all around. Easy to talk to and very understanding. I Highly recommend Dr Pahk for retinal issues of any kind.
If it was not for Dr. Pahk i really believe I would have lost sight in my left eye..Dr. Pahk is a caring lady and always time to listen and asks questions and always always makes my visit a wonderful experience...Thank you Dr. pahk from the bottom of my heart... thank you Warren(Buddy) Shepherd
I suffered a spontaneous retinal detachment over 3 years ago. I was referred to Dr. Pahk by Dr. Douglas Jabs, at the time head of department. She performed 5 surgeries over a period of 3 months, under total anesthesia, as 2-3 weeks after each repair, a new detachment occurred. After the 5th detachment, I consulted elsewhere and it was immediately noted that there was scar tissue behind the retina which was preventing a successful repair. I realized that at no time had there been an investigation of the cause of the recurrences. Dr. Pahk simply repaired the new detachment. During the 5th surgery, my leg was left resting on the gurney and I suffered a compressed nerve in my left leg and was in considerable pain and handicapped for six months. Everyone was telling me it wasn't their fault! After 2 additional surgeries at CornellWeill, where the repair was declared successful, I was then informed that i would need a corneal graft. Unfortunately for me, the damage to my eye from 7 surgeries for what is not a complicated procedure, has left me with a shrunken, blind eye for which there is no remedy. This is a disturbing example of "evidence based medicine" where the surgeons just follow the procedure and seem to stop thinking. Once the outcome became obvious, no one was interested, and i was more or less dismissed. Dr. Pahk is a very human, caring and devoted surgeon who, unfortunately has fallen victim to the current medical practice. Stick to the protocol and don't get sued. I never intended to sue her, but once I left her care, she simply disappeared.
Dr. Pahk attempted 5 vitrectomies over a 3 month period due to recurring detachments. During this period, she apparently neglected to search for a cause, opting instead for immediate repair. After the fifth failed intervention, I consulted another ophthalmologist who immediately identified the cause of the recurrences, operated, and repaired the detachment. Unfortunately, the five failed vitrectomies achieved only one thing: decompensation of my cornea and a chronic hyptony which went untreated. I now find myself with a pre-phtisical eye which is functionally blind though - amazingly - I have retained acceptable visual potential. Also, the eye has lost some 20% of its volume, which has resulted in a disfigurement. After consulting some 20 opthalmologists in different parts of the country and overseas, I have been informed that there are no possible treatments, and I will most likely lose the eye entirely Though she was very caring at the time, once the extent of the damage became evident, she cut off all contact.
My detached retina turned into a slow painful journey. The doctor has been supportive as I go through the surgeries.
I recently saw Dr. Patricia Pahk for the first time this January 2013. I had never been to the Mount Sinai Opthalmology department, so be prepared: the office is large and super-busy, with upwards of 30-40 patients in the large waiting room. My appointment with Dr. Pahk was for 2:00 pm, and after they took my glass measurements, fitted me for an updated prescription, and dilated my eyes, it was about 3:30 pm when I got to see Dr. Pahk. I was really impressed with Dr. Pahk. She's young, energetic, knowledgable, and very caring. I needed to see her specifically for my retina and my "lattices" condition, and she took the time to really explain things thoroughly to me. She also told me that if I ever suspected I had a retinal detachment to call the office immediately and run to the office (i.e., Mount Sinai Hospital). I had previously seen other eye doctors that were too quick and dismissive of me. I would have to say Dr. Pakh was really good and a breath of fresh air.
Terrific doctor. Very friendly. Very compassionate. Very skillful.
I saw Dr. Pahk for an ongoing eye inflamation problem. She advised me to have a second pathologist look at a biopsy slide. I have still not received the results ( one year later) Despite repeated phone calls for her or someone from that office to call, no call back. She's nice but i should get a call back and get the report to what the pathologist said!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
