Joel Ricci-Gorbea's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Ricci had me get a CT scan, which ruled out a hernia, which both he and a doctor at the urgent care clinic thought I might have. He suggested I go see another doctor with a particular specialty. I did. That doctor wanted to do an MRI, and her office said she submitted all information Dr. Ricci's office sent them to insurance for a pre-approval. Insurance denied the MRI, stating they had not received enough information to deem it medically necessary, but if more information was submitted they could reconsider. I called both doctor's office, and asked them to call the other to figure out what else could be submitted. Each office claimed it was a violation of HIPPA for them to call the other. Finally, I wrote a letter to both doctors begging them both to cooperate with me and work together so a scan could be done to determine what was causing the problem (or at least eliminate another cause). Dr. Ricci's office called to schedule a follow up appointment. In that follow up appointment, I asked him to please just call the other doctor's office. His response to me was "and say what?" as if I should know the ins and outs of insurance approvals (unlike his staff, who deal with insurance every day). He repeatedly told me "from my perspective, an MRI is medically unnecessary," indicating he didn't care that another doctor with a specialty thought it was, and I was to be treated as thing more than a body part (an intestine that the CT scan determined was not poking through an abdominal wall). I point blank asked him to have his staff call the other doctor to see if there was anything else they could provide, and he repeated "from my perspective, an MRI is medically unnecessary." Who cares about his perspective at that point? So here I am more than four months after developing symptoms that lead two doctors (including Dr. Ricci-Gorbea) to suspect a hernia and still experiencing those symptoms, no closer to an answer. Thanks a bunch Dr. Ricci!

After a visual exam Dr. Ricci Gorbea ordered a CT scan. The CT scan ruled out a hernia, and his office suggested I go to another specialist (OBGYN) as the scan found fibroids. The GYN determined that I needed a MRI scan, but insurance denied the procedure as not medically necessary due to a lack of information. The GYN said she needed more information from Dr. Ricci Gorbea, but said she could not call his office. When I asked his office to call the specialist to get this figured out, his office said they could not & would not call the GYN. After a letter to the two doctors offices chastising them for their refusal to work with one another, Ricci Gorbea's office called for a follow up appt. In this follow up appointment he point blank stated from his perspective there was no reason for an MRI (who cares? he's not a GYN) and refused to contact the GYN. So here i am, with an untreated, painful lower abdominal bulge, and two doctors acting like children refusing to talk to one another.

If you want to be treated like a body part, this is the doctor to go to. I underwent Da Vinci robotic umbilical surgery on 1/14/2021. (24hrs ago- outpatient. Went home the same day.) Dr. Joel Ricci Gorbea performed the surgery. My experience couldn’t have went BETTER. Thank God & Dr. Joel Ricci Gorbea for his professionalism & great work ethics. His team was also Great. As expected I have soreness (Miid-section), but nothing dramatic. I wish I could’ve THANKED Dr. Ricci Gorbea & team but they’re busy taking care of other patients. I would Absolutely recommend Dr.Joel Ricci Gorbea to anyone suffering from hernia (different types).
