List of Lawrence Schiff's Reviews
Wow. I am shocked by the negative reviews listed here. Our whole family has seen Dr. Schiff over the years, and he is incredible. His attention to detail and skill as a dentist are exceptional. His dental hygienists are caring and extremely skilled. The practice is great with children as well. I would recommend them to anyone who wants a dentist they can trust.
Our family of four and I have been very happy customers of The Schiff Dental Group since 2015. They came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Karen, Dr. Ali, Dr. Moniz, and Dr. Zurek have been professional, caring and competent, as has the office staff. Yesterday I received a bill for a service that was rendered in October 2020. This was the first bill that I received for the treatment and it had a $20 finance charge included. Prior to the new year, I had called the office to make an appointment for my husband and also asked about our bill since I had recently had dental surgery and was told there was no balance due. At that time, I commented that I was surprised and was told it may still be in process with the insurance company. The first bill I had in hand arrived yesterday. Today I called Schiff Dental office and explained that this was the first bill I received and that I would appreciate the removal of the finance charge. The bill is dated 1/1/21 but arrived yesterday. There were no prior bills received. I called in good conscience to review my bill and from the start I felt accused and attacked by the office manager. I tried to explain that with a pandemic and a postal service issues, I had not received a bill. She told me I knew I had $XXXX worth of service in October and since I knew, it should have been paid and I was responsible for the entire $XXXX. I advised that I will submit a payment of $XXXX today and follow up in my next pay period to pay in full. I was also told today that multiple attempts were made to contact me by phone, but after reviewing my phone records, I have received no calls from the Schiff Dental Office since the follow up call after the procedure in October. I have always been treated kindly and professionally by the office staff, but the office manager was difficult and accusatory. I called today with the intention of paying my bill today, but asked in good conscience to have the finance charge removed since it was the first bill that I received. Our call was frustrating and I struggled to discuss my issue because of the obstinate attitude. I have every intention of paying my bill and my appointment in October 2020 was scheduled to coincide with a lump sum deposit into my HSA at year end. The appointment timing was planned with that in mind and the funds remains in my account to pay for my procedure. I asked to please speak to a supervisor and was told that Dr. Schiff was her supervisor and there was "no way" that he would call me back. I advised that I would like to speak to someone else prior to sending my payment and the office manager stated that perhaps I should get a lawyer. I again reiterated that I want to pay my bill, but should not have been charged a finance charge. She stated that she is the office manager and that there is no other supervisor, adding it was her job to collect the bills and because that is her job, there was no way she would let Dr. Schiff know that she was not doing her job. I will reiterate that I fully intend to pay my bill and it was the finance charge that I was questioning, but my conversation with the office manager was so unlike any other conversation with anyone else at Schiff Dental Office and as a customer, I feel it's necessary to have a conversation with someone else. I have never before been treated so coldly by any other member of The Schiff Dental Group staff. It is sad that our family is going to have a find a new Dental Care provider over a $20 finance charge. I'm sure it's also not the intention of The Schiff Dental Group to lose a family of four, three of whom have significant dental needs, over $20. We loved going to our dental visits, but as the office manager said, I knew about my $2000 worth of treatment and should have paid my bill already, so that leaves things feeling quite awkward, doesn't it?
Three generations of my family and many of my friends have been seeing Dr. Schiff and his associates for more than 10 years. They've been great. They're supportive, understanding, handle all of the aspects of insurance, and allow us to pay in installments, as necessary. I highly recommend them.
All I can say, is that after 2 years of countless visits to correct 2 crowns made by Dr. Schiff, that were constantly problematic, I am left with chronic discomfort with every bite, every meal, everyday. I trusted Dr. Schiff, each time to correct the issue. Each visit, he suggested another costly procedure. After a root canal, gum surgery, 3 RE-DOs, a night guard that was so uncomfortable I couldn't wear...this was a very expensive, time consuming grief stricken experience! Evidently I am NOT the only one who feels this way!!
I saw Jill Zurek, who fixed a filling. She is professional and did a great job. However, was shocked to find that my bill was over $300 for a single filling. Make sure to ask about prices before getting ANYTHING done here. I talked to my insurance company who told me that the group overcharged me. When I called to ask about the charge, the secretary was extremely rude and said "this is how it is done at the practice". Very inappropriate and unprofessional supporting staff at this Dental Group.
I've been going to Dr. Schiff for several years and am shocked to read prior Yelp reviews detailing bad experiences. EVERYONE, receptionists, hygienists, and Dr. Schiff are truly first rate. My cleanings are better than the they were at my prior dentist-extremely thorough and state of the art equipment. For those of you who feel you are being gouged for money- my experience has been quite the opposite. On several occasions I have tried to convince Dr. Schiff to do some elective work on my teeth which he has politely talked me out of doing. The work I've requested would be very costly and he has, with repeated explanation, convinced me not to have it done. Perhaps Dr. Schiff's fees might be slightly more (?) expensive than some, but I'd rather pay a few extra dollars knowing a chipped tooth will be fixed perfectly. I have referred my whole family and two close friends to this practice and can't imagine going to anyone else. As for bedside manner, Dr. Schiff and his staff are exceptional.
I don't really want to elaborate much at this time but Dr. Schiff is the worst dentist I've ever been to. Never, ever go to this man.
Interesting that when you search for reviews of this practice, they all seem glowing. But wait...where's yelp? Hmmmmm. Seems yelp conviently doesn't show up. I would agree however, with the other few yelp reviews. This place is all about how much money can I get from you? If I had gone with their recommendation for services I would have had major surgery. New dentist quote, "Your bone loss looks like every other 50 year old. Nothing to worry about. It's expected and not harmful." If you open your mouth here (literally) expect a whopper of a bill.
I have experienced nothing but first-class treatment at the Schiff Dental Group. The talented team of dentists and courteous staff genuinely care for their patients and it shows. After moving out of the area a few years ago, I resolved to continue going to Dr. Schiff because I was so impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. I now drive 90 minutes each way just to see Dr. Schiff! I would not trust my dental health to anyone else. The Schiff Dental Group, in my opinion, is one of the premier practices in the Philadelphia-area.
I've been going to Dr. Schiff for close to a decade. I would go nowhere else for my dental needs. The front desk staff and hygienists are incredibly warm and welcoming. Furthermore, Dr. Schiff and the other dentists always make you feel like you are the only patient that they have. They do not rush you. They devote the time needed to your mouth and to speak with you.I had a very tricky situation with my front tooth--a cap that needed to be color matched to the rest of my teeth so as to not standout. Dr. Schiff spent well over an hour taking pictures of my teeth and experimenting with colors to ensure that the tooth was a match with my other teeth. The end result was masterful. When quizzed, no one can tell which of my teeth is the fake one. Thank you, Dr. Schiff!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
