It is very likely that she will greet you with her signature coruscating smile - but behind the sparkle the smile is deeply accrediting. One evening after my triple bypass open heart surgery, Dr. Joanna Chikwe seemed unable to muster that smile. At around 8 pm - ostensibly after a gruelling day - she still went on to field all the questions from my family despite being visibly exhausted. If you are still reading this review, in all likelihood you did some reading on Dr. Chikwe. In my case, I knew nothing about her but now consider myself lucky, that she agreed to perform the surgery with short notice from another outstanding Stony Brook Cardiologist, Dr. Travis Bench. Now, I humbly ask you to do some reading about Dr. Chikwe and you will understand why Stony Brook Cardiology is abuzz with her name and nagnanimus presence. I did my checking after the fact: And with a heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Chikwe and the entire Heart Institute of Stony Brook I am glad that Ms. Chikwe chose to be a Heart Surgeon and not a Helicopter Pilot - albeit, I am sanguine that she would make an outstanding pilot. I hope one doesn't need her hands but she is one of the best in the world.
