Felt rushed and pushed to have surgery
I could hear Dr. Barrick yelling at the patient in the examination room next to where I was waiting. I was horrified to hear the woman pleading with the doctor by name that she was in agony and the pain was so bad. Apparently this was her first post-op visit. He told her he wasn’t going to change her medication, and she needed to “deal with it”. I am an educated woman (a PhD) and I am not claiming to be a medical doctor, however no one should ever talk to anyone the way Dr. Barrick spoke to that woman. She sounded as if she was elderly and was crying for help. I decided right there and then I would never allow him to treat me. When he came into my room I told him that what I had just heard was horrible. He did not care. He told me to go someplace else. I did and I’ve never returned to Orthopedic Associates. I did report what I had heard to the manager on staff, and asked for a supervisor to call me. No one did. In reading these reviews I see that nothing has changed.
Dr. Barrick. Fantastic! Surgeon knows what he's doing. He likes things done in a certain way. And in order. I thank him very much for the surgery he did. I recommend him to anybody. Bless his hands.
I had to be admitted to my local hospital due to extreme back pain. I could not move without debilitating pain. I had to bed ridden and drugged 24 /7 due to that pain. Dr Barrick after reviewing my mri told my wife and I what he was going to do. He was straight forward and made us feel very comfortable with his explanation. I’m writing this 10 days after my operation, it went just like he said , the pain that disabled me was completely gone. We are eternally grateful to Dr Barrick . Absolutely professional, but also kind enough to put us at ease , I can’t thank him enough.
No bedside manner, not personable, not quite happy with him
was warned by many health care professionals that Dr. Barrick was rude and knife happy. Quoted as say likes his patients unconscious. I had an initial appointment with him in spring 2020. He was rude fast talking confusing and not willing to listen. He physically hurt me as he did his rushed half hearted checklist of an exam. He refused to listen to complaints of pain in multiple parts of body ( shoulder, hip, foot) Said one at time and focused on my lower back which I had no complaint of . He immediately started talking surgery and ordered MRI and other tests. My next visit he saw no real surgery option need or to justify him getting paid for and I becamed a bother, he offered random experimental surgeries or nothing, and with test proven nerve damage I was told too bad nothing for that . I followed through on his treatment plan of physical therapy and Gabapentin that he gave me obviously just to get rid of me . I returned 6 month later after his treatment plan was not working and had caused further nerve damage to my leg and foot . He told me he does do feet and again offered experimental painful surgeries if I kept bugging him . He was belligerent, rude , condescending, he did not only refuse to listen or answer questions, but spoke over me as I tried to ask for referals or guidance other than surgery or contraindicated interventions. I asked him to stop yelling and he continued . I was forced to redress in front of him to leave room and appointment . His nurse followed apologizing about him and behavior as it is his normal. He is a horrible knife happy doctor . Who steamrolls patients into surgeries . He needs to be investigated and I bet there are many victims out there .
Dr. Barrick recently did a lumbar spine surgery on me that went exceedingly well. No more pain radiating down my leg. I am totally pain free after seven weeks. I stumbled on Dr. Barrick and decided to have him do my surgery after one visit to him. I believe that God guided me to him because He knew I needed a skilled doctor who is at the top of his game to do my surgery. Thank you Dr. Barrick for a job well done. If you are looking for a spine surgeon, I recommend you visit Dr. Barrick. The best!
60+ minute wait; Incredibly rushed; Spoke WAY too fast; Poor bedside manner; Not empathetic; Was able to get in last-minute for an emergency. He read my MRI accurately and gave me the PT referral I needed, but was not helpful in recommending aggressive care for a young, active patient. I would not feel comfortable returning for a consultation, let alone going under the knife.

Thank you Dr. Barrick for giving me my quality of life back. It started with tingling in my fingers then into my arms then my shoulders and then my whole back. It kept me up all night, I would get 15 minutes sleep at best since before waking up. I went to Dr. Barrick on the advice of another neurosurgeon Dr. Oslewski from Misrecordia hospital in New Rochelle for a second opinion on surgery. The best thing I ever did. I decided to go with Dr. Barrick because of his knowledge and minimal invasive surgery. The other Dr. would've kept me in the hospital for a week then in internal rehab for two weeks. Dr. Barrick said I would be back home within two days, not true, I was home within 15 hours from the surgery. He came to my bedside before the surgery and after the surgery, he also took my wife aside which put her at ease. The follow ups were fantastic, he took his time, explained everything and when the insurance company wouldn't give me my bone stimulator he got involved by calling them personally three times. I got the bone stimulator. The numbness went away and I was sleeping again. Thank you very much Dr. Barrick, I HIGHLY recommend this Doctor.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
