List of Christopher A. Smith's Reviews
Initially when I went to this practice I was pleased with what seemed to be a warm and friendly environment (other than one super cranky receptionist). I thought I had a food allergy, and after testing they determined I didn't. That was good to know. But I do have many seasonal allergies. Here is where the problem started. It was all meds, meds, meds. The list of meds in my chart is extensive. None of them worked, I couldn't tolerate others, and in the year I went there I got progressively worse with my allergies and allergic asthma, not better. Then it got to the point where I caught COVID and had a terrible cough. They gave me prednisone after I explicitly told them I didn't tolerate it. But I was scared, because asthma is a high risk factor with COVID. I had a terrible, terrible reaction. I had to finish the taper but after that I stopped taking all of the medications. It was too many. I now only use the rescue inhaler as needed and I am almost back to normal. So here is my criticism of Dr. Smith specifically: not once during this whole time did I actually see him, except for the day he read my allergy test results. Where is he? Off doing "research" and leaving nurses in charge, apparently.
They don't tip their delivery people.
If its wasn't 4 Dr.Smith I would probably be dead right now. He spends quality time with his patients. Very intelligent and compassionate. His office staff is wonderful. I would highly recommend him.
The front staff is very nice and helpful. However, the nurses that you interact with are very rude and impatient. The doctor himself is a decent man, however I am not sure he knows what he is talking about half the time. For the money you spend on a doctor's visit, this place isn't worth it and this doctor isn't worth it. I will not bring my family here again.
Dr. Smith isn't trustworthy, because he's deceptive in many ways. He doesn't communicate in a straightforward way. He makes a lot of what he probably thinks are white lies - little untruths to smooth things over, so he can maintain a "nice" appearance that works for him. He sometimes deceives patients about their medical treatment. He doesn't seem genuinely kind, and his office is dysfunctional in many ways. His website is very boastful - it promotes him as a top-level researcher. But I wasn't able to find any articles on Medline by him, despite searching a good deal. He does get paid by drug companies to help test new drugs sometimes, but he is certainly not a top researcher in his field.
Dr. Smith is really the only option in Cortland unless you want to go to a place where the dr's rotate every time you visit and the owner is never present. But aside from that, he is a caring, patient doctor who will listen to your ailments and provide great medical care. He is always taking part in recent studies and seems to be a great leader in the field.
I have been a patient of Dr. Smith's for many years now, even prior to when he opened his own practice. When I realized that he had opened his own office in Corning, I chose to go there for my asthma/allergy treatment instead of being treated in my own city -- 45 miles away. He and his staff have been wonderful in taking my symptoms seriously, and I appreciate his thorough evaluation of my condition. I would recommend him to any other person interested in receiving treatment for allergies or asthma.
Our experience with Dr. Smith was not a good one. My wife was having a relatively seriously allergic reaction when we moved into a new home. She had no issues previously and no issues in the house prior to putting new carpet down. Since the carpet was installed, she had hives and swelling in her hands and face (no breathing issues though- thankfully). Dr. Smith immediately dismissed this as a possibility and proceeded to insist that this was a food allergy, ordering expensive testing (over $1000) to also rule out thryoid or liver disorders. When all those tests came back negative, he finally admitted that, hey, maybe we knew a thing or two about the situation (as in, no new foods eaten and clean bill of health recently). Dr. Smith made us feel inferior (as we don't have an MD) and dismissed our information quickly. We are very unhappy with the treatment and service we received.
Has A Very warm personality and is always very concerned about his patients. He is always accurate with his diagnoses (what ever may be wrong) with the patient. All I can state and end my rating with him is that he is a very personable intelligent Doctor.
When I first went to Dr. Smith my asthma had been out of control for several months of prednisone and hospitalizations and my other physicians had sort of thrown up their hands and given up. He took the time to consider all my treatment options including a new study that wound up being my wonder drug. He is always concerned and always accessible. I would highly recommend him to any patient.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
