List of Peter S. Schwartz's Reviews
This office has a wonderful doctor and staff, especially Sue and Karen! They are very knowledgeable kind and patient with questions. I would view many of the negative reviews here with a lot of skepticism. They see thousands of patients per year, and are booking out 6+ months… a business has to be doing a lot of things right for that to happen. Many of my friends have had cataract surgery with dr schwArtz, and speak very highly of him and the process. I would recommend them highly for all ages!
I went to this practice for a new pair of eye glasses. I was born with a congenital cataract that was undetected until the age of 7. My one eye never had the chance to fully develop, and I’ve been “legally blind” in one eye my entire life. I was very up front and honest, knew I needed and wanted progressive lenses. I was left looking around the store at all the frames without much help, and settled on a pair of small square-ish frames. When I returned to pick up my glasses that I paid $150.00 extra for the progressive lens, I was more that irritated. I was told that because I had “one eye” they would not give me the progressive lenses. And would not refund my $150.00 that I paid for this service.
First off the Dr himself is a decent dr...issue is the staff I've dealt with always has attitudes its very hard to get an appointment even for a child with broken glasses 6 month wait seems excessive I've only taken my child here but I need her glasses faster that half a year smh
I have been coming to Dr. Schwartz on and off for years. Probably over a decade. The doctor is amazing. Too bad he employs such incredibly rude staff. I called about a month ago because my son lost his glasses and needed a new prescription before I could purchase him another pair. Even though he’s pretty much blind without them and wouldn’t be able to go through his daily activities without them the receptionist refused to make an emergency appointment for him and scheduled him several weeks out. Ok, fine. I made the appointment but told her I was going to call around because he wouldn’t be able to go that long without glasses. I called her back about a half hour later to cancel the appointment because Americas Best was able to get him in that same day. She acted like I was inconveniencing her and gave me attitude. Yesterday I received a bill in the mail for a no show. I called today to explain that I canceled this appointment the same day I made it and she proceeded to give me attitude and accused me of lying. She said she remembered me (from a month ago? How many calls do they get?) and said that I never called to cancel. Then she asked me if I remembered the name of the person I talked to. I was unaware that I should be taking names at the time in order to defend my position later that I made a cancellation. After much back and forth she finally told me that she would cancel my no show fee “this time “ and hung up on me. Why is it that for YEARS people have complained about the staff and yet he’s still employing the worst of the worst? What a shame because he really is a great doctor but I will be taking my business elsewhere. I’m done being a punching bag for his receptionists. He’s literally ruining his name by who he employs. Apparently that office is lacking some serious oversight. Does the doctor even read these reviews? I’d give zero stars if I could. And btw I never write reviews. This might even be my first. That’s how rude she was. Let me tell you KAREN, because yeah I do remember your name this time, you really live up to your name. Since I can’t respond to your reply I’ll do it here. My story didn’t change, you just were too busy talking to listen to what I was saying. I told you that I called back and canceled the same day I made the appointment. You responded that I had to give at least 24 hours notice and I said well that was at least 2 weeks notice since my appointment was about two weeks later and I canceled the same day I made the appointment. AGAIN, it’s not my fault that you didn’t have records of me canceling. Maybe just do your job next time and make sure you enter it into the system instead of blaming the clients for your incompetence. 🤷🏻♀️
I went to Peter Schwartz for blurry vision and he immediately recognized macular degeneration. I was at a retinal surgeon's office in Syracuse 3 hours later and they saved my vision in my right eye. I have been going to Dr. Schwartz for about a decade and can't say enough good about him.
Overall, the Dr and staff seem to be friendly and accommodating and have the means to handle all age ranges. For example when I brought my kid, they were nice and patient with them and had toys and printouts to help gauge their vision.
Made an appointment with Dr. Schwartz who performed my cataract surgery 9 years ago because my vision in one eye had become cloudy. Did not see him, but instead a Dr Smith, who I’d never meet before, who proceeded to give me a routine vision exam with no explanation. When I tried to ask questions but she was rude, hurried and unprofessional and told me I could leave since I had came there “voluntarily.” I did leave at once, but did after her abrupt and dismissive manner were continued. I have never been treated so condescendingly by ANY health care professional, and I am 71 years old. DO NOT HO TO THIS PRACTICE. Spend your and your insurance dollars on respectful care.
I decided to switch to Dr. Schwartz after having an unpleasant experience at Arleo last year. Was well worth the wait for the initial appointment!! This practice seems to treat patients like family. I was able to purchase glasses right after the appointment for very reasonable price. Loved the new prescription, so came back asking if I could get corresponding contacts. (expected to have to make another appointment for another exam and wait another few months) NOT the case!! Got trials within 2 days and a new 6 month supply the following week. Super good receptionist. (I think her name is Brittany but not sure) Love this place! Everyone seems always eager to help.
Jeez…just reading some of these reviews - - I am definitely not going to use this office. This is why reviews are so important. This office sounds terrible. Immature staff, unprofessional doctor, shady transactions, …. If they are like this to just 1 patient, the next one could be me! Best of luck to you.
Doctors at this office are very nice but the receptionist are very rude and unprofessional. They should learn customers service and need to learn how to interact with elderly people. Very disrespectful!!!!!!!!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
