List of Yan Michael Li's Reviews
My dad had a fracture between C12 levels of his cervical spine that led to severe narrowing and compression of his spinal canal and disc displacement. He had a consultation with a different surgeon who recommended a surgery that would have involved fusing his entire cervical spine as well as attaching a platescrews to his skull leaving him with no mobility of his neck. The surgeon suggested he get a second opinion from Dr. Li. When Dr. Li saw my dad the approach he recommended was to take out the fractured piece to decompress the spinal canal push the displaced disc back into its normal position and fuse only levels C13. He let us know that during the surgery it might be needed to fuse additional levels but he would just start out with the first 3 and continue further down if needed. My dad decided to go with Dr. Li given his approach was less invasive and would still allow him to have neck mobility after surgery. Additionally Dr. Li had done many surgeries like this before and was very experienced. Throughout the surgery preparation process Dr. Li’s office staff especially Sasha was very helpful patient and kind with insurance processing getting all the tests he needed scheduling the surgery and answering any questions we had along the way. The day of the surgery the anesthesiologist was unavailable due to an emergency and Sasha immediately helped to find a new anesthesiologist and rescheduled the surgery for the following day. The surgery itself took place at Methodist Stone Oak Hospital. Dr. Li had assembled an amazing team anesthesiologist nurse and specialist in nerve monitoring during surgery. All were very kind and met with my dad along with Dr. Li prior to the surgery. The nurse called me periodically during the actual surgery to let me know how everything is going how my dad is doing when he woke up etc. Thanks to God the surgery went well and Dr. Li came out afterward to talk to me personally. He also later visited my dad in his room to check in on him. My dad spent 3 nights at the hospital and has since been recovering at home for over a month now. Dr. Li’s office has continued to be very helpful during the recovery with sending prescriptions he needs getting a neck brace delivered to our home and continuing to answer our questions. When my dad had some concerns about numbness and tightness in his neck Dr. Li’s office was able to quickly book a follow up appointment and Dr. Li had my dad do an xray and saw him in his office to make sure he is ok. We will see him again around the 3month 6month and 1 year mark to make sure his spine is fusing correctly. My dad has seen significant improvement in the symptoms he had prior to the surgery and so far is doing very well. My family is very grateful for Dr. Li and his entire staff and would highly recommend a consultation with him for anyone who is suffering with a similar condition.
His secretary is a train wreck Scheduled me for a procedure only to find out the medical facility did not take my insurance. I specifically asked her if they verified with my insurance. She said oh yes we are good to go. Thank God I questioned her response and called on my own. She is not very responsive and does not follow thru with what she tells you. Does not return calls like she says she will. Back pain is nothing to play with so I have switched To another Dr.
I am grateful for Dr Lis incredible skills and knowledge after a brutal car wreck that broke my back. He spent 8 hours working on me in surgery. With minimal scarring and a 100% return to a good active life I credit Dr Li with saving my life. This kind and modest doctor knows exactly what he is doing. You can trust him with your life. There are not stars enough to rate this wonderful physician
Dr Li was my boyfriends surgeon. He was very helpful and personable and kept us in the loop the entire weekend we were in the hospital. I would highly recommend him.
Dr. Yan Michael Li is an accomplished and skilled surgeon that is always wearing a smile. Dr. Li takes the time to explain the surgery and has offered input along my entire process during and after my Laminectomy Surgery. Dr. Li comes highly recommended
Husband had surgery in 2016 and 2 days after discharge he was readmitted for MRSA and had to do surgery again. Was in for total of 59 days with more than half of them in intensive care Couple of post op visits waited over 2 hrs for a scheduled visit and saw him all of 7 minutes and drove over 4 hrs to see him
Going here is such a waste of time I drive an HR to appts to sit either in the waiting room for 2 hrs or in the exam room for 2 hrs then have the Dr come in for 5 minutes not to even care or listen to my concerns just says what he wants to say and the visit is over then to go out and his secretary has apparently gone to lunch no one to cover so he says she will call you with referrals what a joke its been 3 days still no call just like two months ago NEVER got the referral either....hes definitely not good with patients and his secretary is a joke
I had Dr Li as my surgeon and he really is the best.
I had brain surgery this year and was blessed to have Dr. Li as the head surgeon on my care team at Strong hospital. I loved him from the moment we met and I saw him today for my 6 months check up and all is well. I love him and his surgery staff and recommend him with no reservations. He saved my life and I am grateful to him forever. AC
No regard for patients time. Drove my father all the way from Buffalo to Rochester for an appt. with Dr. Li that I had made over a month ago only to be told that he had a prior engagement and was not there. I was told that someone should have called me the previous day to let me know except nobody did. Clearly it wasnt a prior engagement or he would have known about it more than a day in advance. So after finding someone to watch my children for the day and driving over 3 hours I completely wasted my time and received a halfhearted apology in return. They wouldnt even reschedule the appt. for me and said I would have to call and try to reschedule. I will def. be finding a new doctor for my father.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
