Fortunately was referred to Dr. Sonoda when I needed colon resection. He and his team are excellent. Great communication and genuine warm manner eased concerns. Don’t know how he did it, but underwent extended bowl resection with minor tenderness and no real pain. Doctor Sonoda visited everyday while I was in hospital to check up and review recovery. Follow up care is very good. Unhurried comprehensive follow up visits. I have recovered well and find myself most grateful for his expertise in surgical treatment and post operative care. It was quickly apparent how highly regarded Doctor Sonoda is by every medical professional I have encountered on this surgical and post operative treatment. The respect he has garnered is visible and noted by every caregiver. Doctor Sonoda’s support team was also impressive. Quick and clear responses to what few communication I needed to make was helpful and appreciated. Doctor Sonoda is a great, as a warm caring person and skilled surgeon.

Agree with all the other reviews. Excellent, personable, caring doctor. Accepts Tricare military insurance. After 5 hour surgery ended up taking 9 hours, he visited my family member in the hospital virtually everyday including Sunday morning at 7:30am.

Patient doctor, sees patients himself was at my bedside way after surgery and first thing in the morning. He doesn't just send residents to round on his patients.

For over 20 years I've known Dr Sonoda to be completely worthy of the trust a patient has to place in a surgeon. He is far more reserved than any of the *superstar* CR surgeons I've dealt with but unlike most of them, he spells out the pros and cons openly and honestly so that I can make informed decisions and have realistic expectations about the outcome, the healing process, and my future. I followed him from Weill Cornell to NYU Langone in Manhattan and I now take the two-hour trip to his office in Mineola when I need to see him -- his skill, honesty and integrity are all very rare in this field and I am lucky to have found him.

I believe that Dr. Sonoda is one of the Best Doctors in the World. His training and experience in the field of Colon and Rectal Surgery has been delivered by the Best doctors in their field. He is the student who has by far surpassed his Masters! How do I know you may ask? I was there working in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the time in The Cleveland Clinic and then at New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York.

An amazing Doctor and such a gentleman. I had Sigmoid resection in Feb 2020 just before Covid really hit. So fortunate to have found Dr. Sonoda and his support team. Winthrop was amazing: kind hearted professionals at the TOP of their game. I was in and out in 3 days. My Diverticulitis is NO MORE! No complications, very little pain even. Never enough thanks can be bestowed on such high caliber people. Nonetheless: my very humble thanks.

When visiting Dr. Sonoda he immediately scheduled an MRI and diagnosed an internal infection. I had been to another doctor and apparently misdiagnosed. Over the course of a month or so, Dr. Sonoda attempted to remedy my infection conventionally in-office, but ultimately required surgery. If you have the misfortune of needing the services of a colorectal surgeon and somehow find yourself in the presence of Dr. Sonoda, consider yourself a very lucky person. He is a highly-skilled, empathic, super-smart, rockstar doctor on the down-low. I think about him often and how his healing skills put my life back on track.
