Be prepared to WAIT! As well-regarded a doctor Dr. McDonald is and as important she is to the field of opthalmology, she is a LOUSY keeper of time. I waited at both my appointments with her way longer than should have been necessary for her to test me and find that her diagnosis was correct. I resented that her staff could never give me a fair and accurate estimate of when she would see me and when we were in the same room, I felt rushed and as if she was pressuring me to make a decision on going forward. I will go forward but not with her. Pick someone who is not Dr. McDonald if you value your time!

Dr. McDonald is a leading researcher in her field and is a good doctor.Only complaint is that visits feel hurried and the office time is ALWAYS 2 hours. Even for a 15 minute visit with her.

I have gone to Dr McDonald for many years . She started off good but something has changed. My last encounter with her was BAD. She prescribed a medication that I was allergic to. It was in my chart and she prescribed it anyway. I have suffered for over 2 months with the reaction I have also had several mistakes with her prescribing the wrong meds I recommend anyone to proceed with extreme caution. I am in the process of reviewing my options. I will never return

I had a LASIK Surgery at Dr. McDonald in 1996. Terrible results as we can see on topographies following LASIK Surgery. Half of my cornea was treated (the other half was Masked) and a puncture at the center of my cornea indicating penetration to the cornea with a sharp instrument getting into the interior of my eye pulling the Vitreous. As a result; I have severe Irregular Cornea that can not be fixed and Posterior Vitreous Detachment. I won't recommend this doctor to even treat an animal.

I am blessed to have found Dr. McDonald! I was seeing Dr. Van Valkenburg at SightMD in Garden City for my dry eye, recurrent styes and chalazion. She minimized my eye conditions and basically told me to deal with it, that this is life. Dr. McDonald was wonderful! She was compassionate and empathic and she is truly an expert in this area! She started me on a regime and I am already seeing results! I would highly recommend her. Some of the office staff need to learn better people skills.

This doctor is NOT for people with no patience. If you want fast diagnosis this doctor is not for you. She is corteous, explains everything in full detail, doesn't take shortcuts. She always tells you the best you results you can get but prepares for the worst anyway. Check, double checks, and triple checks everything. Leaves no rooms for errors or unforeseen circumstances. If you have a problem - she will find it. Then keep checking and rechecking and rechecking while already preparing for worst and giving you things to do just in case. Best results but it will take forever to get them.
