Have you ever cried while a paps is being performed on you? Because thanks to this doctor, I can now say that I have. At the start of the visit, he brushed off my questions about a positive STD test treating them like they were unimportant, then proceeded to lecture me about how I needed an IUD. He told me that condoms don’t prevent pregnancy, which is obviously false. In the span of a few minutes he made me feel unsafe, questioned my self esteem, and left me even more confused about my STD by giving different information than doctors I’ve had in the past.
After specifically booking with a female provider, my experience with PureOB GYN was not what I had signed up for at all, and was a total nightmare. I called the day of my appointment to confirm, and despite that, when I arrived, they informed me that the doctor I had booked was delivering and a covering doctor would handle. It wasn't until the doctor, Alexander Goncharov, came into the exam room that I found out it was a male covering doctor (which is hugely inconsiderate and unethical - what if I were someone with sexual trauma or religious objections?!). Dr. Goncharov glanced at my chart, asked if I have a stressful job, then proceeded to comment that given my "medical conditions" (by which he presumably meant my Type 1 Diabetes and related hypertension), I should consider a less stressful line of work. He also suggested I eat on a regular schedule for my Diabetes (pro tip: you can find this out by Googling, and I had already made it clear I had a Diabetes specialist and was only seeking a birth control refill at this appointment). At the end of the appointment, without inquiring as to my activity level or fitness habits, he told me to try being more active. (I am active and athletic and work out several days a week). I then asked him to please forward my testing results to my Endocrinologist and he told me I would have to download them from the patient portal and send them myself. I went to the waiting room for blood work, and he came out a few minutes later, and in front of other patients handed me a paper prescription, explaining that he had decided to change my birth control instead of just refilling it as suggested. With no opportunity for me to discuss, he put the paper in my hand and turned around and walked away. Worst of all, two weeks later I received a call from a medical assistant at his office. They wanted to let me know that my blood work indicated I might have Diabetes, and asked if I was aware of that. Given that he had focused much of the appointment on my Diabetes rather than his own specialty imagine my surprise at receiving that call. Overall, this was the most patronizing doctor I have ever dealt with. He stepped outside his own specialty, tried to make a change in my birth control without giving me any say, and made completely incorrect assumptions about my health and fitness practices. I will not see him again. I have also been informed by a friend who works at Brooklyn Methodist that Dr. Goncharov's rights have been revoked there - and I encourage anyone who DOES see him to look into this first. I just don't care, as I will never see him again.
I am an African American woman and my primary doctor was not available. I am 5 weeks pregnant and Dr. Goncharov told me I should not have a baby. He told me I should not have any children because I have preclamsia when I was pregnant with my first child. He tried to convince me to abort my child with a pill. The next day I received a call from my primary doctor who told me a heartbeat was detected and I should come back. If she did not call me back in I would have thought my child died. This man should not be in practice.
Great doctor and was amazing during my C-section felt very comfortable with Dr.G from day 1
Dry sense of humor but loved his service. He was my prenatal Dr for the last 2 of my children and he was straight to the point. His due date predictions were accurate. I personally have no complaints <3

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
