Balance Eating Disorder Treatment Center's Online Review Report Card

I am an inpatient psychiatric RN of 25 years seeking ED care for my child. Although all my dealings with their staff have been professional and supportive, after 4 weeks of making arrangements and trying to schedule and coordinate the meetings and peripheral care needed to qualify for the program- evaluations, assessment meetings, md appointments and labs etc... today, after a month, I'm informed of the cost- which is well beyond my means- during the course of this process my financial status was clearly eluded to. This disease is time sensitive - why not be transparent ? Why not be forth coming so people can switch gears and pursue other more financially feasible options in a timely fashion? In addition varied levels of care are available and they are pushing the most intensive/expensive level they offer- though recommended soundly, my almost adult patient is not willing to do it. This is common in ED, and she is willing to engage in the next level of care. It was implied that this was not an option because it's not the recommended level of care. Again as an inpatient acute care provider - we don't force treatment- we try to engage patients to get them started and invested in treatment. It begs the question -do they dictate the most expensive level of care for profit, rather than work to pull these resistant patients into treatment? I was so discouraged today. I will try to see if they are willing to provide the care my child is invested in and see what the cost would be. They asked for my health insurance info from the start of the process but did not determine the reimbursement that might be provided. Perhaps this would have made the sticker shock more tolerable.Update: unwilling to provide care- again the level of care that my daughter was willing to participate in was clearly identified from the start- in fact it was the reason I pursued this program- it offered portions that though intensive did not take her out of school. Well a month later - "we are not clinically comfortable to suggest a lower level and will maintain our recommendation." So they will offer nothing. Again be transparent- we will not be flexible beyond our determined recommendations. Square one for us. Time wasted

Even though treatment there was clearly not working for me they did not help me find new resources. They held back information from my new provider, and were rude when we decided I would be better somewhere else. During treatment there, I was treated like more of a paycheck than anything. And that makes sense considering that without insurance coverage. Treatment was impersonal. Staff was rude and clinical, and they were demeaning. My clinician were both terrible, and had zero care for what I had to say.

This place is completely useless if anything it create an poisonous environment for males, so be warned if you identify as male this program is not for you, also IThey don't accommodate people how have issues that are not relevant to the consumption of food, for me I loved food and really had a deep respect for it, going to this program made eating mechanical and lack luster almost like a chore, and the icing on the cake was you have to listen to negative reviews before and after every meal so it make eating even more negative and mute. #neveragain

I was anorexic for three decades of my life and Balance was the last eating disorder treatment center I attended. They were able to help me in a way no other outpatient or inpatient program had before. They treated me like a whole person, not just a body who needed to gain weight. Balance was the first treatment center I went to for my eating disorder. My experience at their iop program was excellent. Staff didn't see me just a client but as a person. I also liked how the treatment was person centered and focused on people strengths. The amount of people in IOP allowed each person to get individual attention. Balance welcomed all body types and no one was ever shamed. Staff listened and truly were 100 percent invested in each individual's recovery. I want to give a shot out to Lauren and Andrew who were both essential in my recovery. The owner, Melanie, is a amazing human being who is truly dedicated to help those who are suffering from an eating disorder. I currently attend the free monthly alumni group that Melanie runs. The group has been very helpful to my recovery.
