List of Barry Chaiken's Reviews
Excellent office and distinguished, knowledgeable doctor. I had a lot of trouble elsewhere and he not only explained where my eye health was at present, but also what to do about it. I wish I had come here first. Excellent in every way.
I had been a patient of DR. Chaikin for several years before he recommended cataract surgery. He told me I would need reading glasses after the surgery;. He knew or should have known that I was already using reading glasses . He did not tell me how much much stronger the reading glasses would be after the procedure. The difference was significant, and remains consistent reminder of Dr. Chaikins cavalier manner. It gets worse. . When he did. the second eye. I felt the instrument on the eyed I started to scream .The anathesiolgoist had left the room. Dr. Chaikin was then screaming at me to not move. I now have multiple vision problems for which there Isi no remedy Hi is so arrogant that when one sits in the waiting room one is treated to a video of the great dr. himself ms This procedure was a few years ago and finally a very good opthamologist admitted to me that the cataract surgery was the cause of many of my problems today
Current and prospective patients of Dr. Chaiken: Beware. Something seems to be up with him and it's not good. He botched surgery with me and even though it was a nightmare I would have written that off as normal surgical error. Unfortunate, but it happens. However his mistakes went far beyond that. He neglected to tell the anesthesiologist about a severe allergy I have to a drug preservative even though I reminded him multiple times in advance and it was in red letters on the pre-surgical clearance form. As a result I had to go through hours of painful surgery minimally medicated. No one bothered to explain to my husband who was waiting why surgery that was supposed to have taken 40 minutes was still going on hours later. He was worried sick when they finally released me. To top it all off, Dr. Chaiken then prescribed an eye drop that had the same preservative in it, triggering multiple allergic reactions! Several doctors I've relayed the tale to have suggested I report him to the Medical Board. I still hesitated to do anything. But a few days ago a salesperson in an eyeglass store who I told the story to told me she's been hearing a lot of similar stories from his patients. Please be careful.
They have an awesome collection of glasses / sunglasses for sale. I purchased a pair of sunglasses with Christine several months ago. After about 3 months of wearing the glasses the paint on them started to chip away. I contacted the office and let them know of the problem, and Christine immediately told me they would make things right. I came back to the office and exchanged my damaged pair for a new one. This place stands by the products they sell and aims to make their clients happy. This doesn't go unnoticed. Check them out!
I would give ZERO stars if available. Avoid this office and this doctor. As a doctor, he's obviously not interested in problems.....just billing. I found him rude and nasty. So nasty that one of the nurses apologized-apparently he's always this way. And to add to it--he's overzealous and heavy handed with his laser and caused intense pain in a former patient. Bad experience all around.
I have been a patient of Dr. Chaiken for several years, but no longer! In his effort to maximize revenue by seeing as many patients as possible, and his arrogance in not listening to patients describe what they are seeing and their pre-existing conditions, he performed surgery on me without referring me to a specialist first and complications from his surgery left me almost blind just a few days afterward. I would advise any patients to get a second opinion before proceeding with any surgery.
Dr Chaiken was recommended to me by another doctor who said he was 'the best'. Frankly, that was an understatement. After a number of tests run by his able assistants, he was able to provide a status report on my vision, retinal health, eyelid issues and cataracts (which I don't have yet but are apparently on the horizon). As for the eyelid issues which had prompted the appointment (and which the last 3 eye doctors couldn't remedy), two weeks later I am symptom-free!
Excellent service. Great experience here with the doctors and Debbie took great care of me. Would highly recommend
Rude staff, extremely long waits for your appointment (they are never on time). Plan to spend at least 90 minutes here. Thorough doctors but the staff and the whole slick experience have made me decide to opt for another eye doctor. Not going back. Also, very expensive.
The staff here is VERY VERY rude!I have received a call from this office and simply returned the call on 10/26/15 at 6:20 pmA woman picked up and informed me well I don't know who called you and I'm too busy to check and hung the phone up promptly! I'm sorry Dr.Barry Chaiken O.D that your front of the line staff is atrocious!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
