I had a horrible experience working with Dr. Stein. He insisted on an expensive and painful surgery to remove my right fallopian tube from a surgeon that he recommended and the surgery did not go well. It went so poorly that I was in surgery an additional 3 hours and the affected fallopian tube was never removed at all. Mind you, I had to take 2 weeks off from work for this surgery. I continue with IVF despite the failed tubal surgery afterwards, they told me that the surgery was “maybe” not necessary after all. (I’m still not sure what they meant from it as they were so vague. I have sought 2nd opinions since and was told that I never needed the surgery.) When Dr. Stein finally called me for a post procedure consultation, he was short tempered with me as I asked questions. I was told to “not to act emotionally”. This was strange to me because I had never once cried or acted out in an overly dramatic way, I was simply asking questions to understand what had gone wrong. Honestly, despite everything that had gone wrong with this clinic, this last conversation was enough for me to move on to another clinic which has been a much better fit and has lead to better outcomes. Please avoid.
Terrible bedside manner. Incompetent and inflexible. Presents as a know it all, giant ego, but honestly when I got a second opinion they were shocked at his treatment recommendations
Highly recommend Dr. Stein and the RMA team to those who are struggling with fertility. Well-structured team that treats their patients with compassion and priority. I started my IVF treatments at 39 yrs. of age and welcomed my first child, a beautiful girl at age 40.
Inappropriate behavior. I can’t imagine the only one who experienced this.
If there was an option to give this doctor 0 stars it would easily be warranted. He pushed IVF on me and my wife with the typical used car salesman tactics. He could not explain the issues of our inability to get pregnant beyond it just isn't working. We did the IVF as my wife liked his confidence of the rate of success. First the finance department told us we have really good insurance that covered it partially and would cost a fraction of what it would cost without insurance. As it turns out they did not take our insurance for IVF and had to pay everything out of pocket. We did the operation and low and behold it was unsuccessful and produced no viable embryos. He sent us an email with this information even though we insisted that he call me while my wife was overseas. He never called but insisted he did. When I called his office upset that I had to beg to speak with him, he told me he didn't appreciate me hounding his office for a call. Receiving a phone call from a Doctor is not an extreme request. We then later discovered that he did not bother to do a karyotype test which he did on me but did not do on my wife which is standard operating procedure. After the fact we discovered that my wife has a unique chromosomal abnormality which he never even took into consideration. When I finally spoke to him and he was trying to explain to me the results, I said the operation was a failure as it produced no viable embryos where he got defensive and accused me of being antagonistic. I asked him to meet with my wife and explain the results and situation and he impatiently said that "it wasn't so hard to understand and I should have to explain what happened". I told him that considering he is the doctor and we had a tragedy that for the sake of my wife he should meet with her and discuss the matter which he did but only in a begrudging matter. If I had to describe him it would be as arrogant, impatient, pompous, smug and sloppy.
I am glad others seem to have a good experience with Dr. Stein, but I did not. I did one round of IVF with him, where he had me on the maximum dose of all meds. I was responding poorly and wish he would have cancelled my cycle to save me the insurance cycle. We got just 1 egg, which failed. When he called me after, I asked if there was a different protocol we could use - his response was “No - this tells me your eggs are DONE. Use a donor egg.” Not a very sensitive thing to say to a woman who is trying to conceive her 1st baby. I switched to Dr. Eric Forman at Columbia, who put me on a totally different (much more gentle) protocol. He was sensitive and lovely, and we got 6 eggs! Dr. Stein also gave me inaccurate information about my frozen eggs from 10 years prior. I am currently 18 weeks pregnant. I wish Dr. Stein could have been more sensitive and flexible. I felt like he just didn’t want to risk a poor outcome because it would affect his stats.
Been long time but went to you in 1997 for fertility treatment first time had 8 eggs stop treatment didn't want to be on TV. Did it again in February had 4 eggs which all took was about 16 weeks started bleeding was recommended to reduce to 2 eventually gave birth to 2 girls. Thanks for all your help
I went to him 1997 for treatment. First try had 8 eggs he cncl it. Did it again 2 months later had 4 eggs which took. I was about 16 weeks pregnant they recommended reducing to two was a heard decision but 24 years later have healthy girls. Did struggle a little in school but received resources both graduated college one going to nursing school the other took criminal law.
I highly recommend Dr. Daniel Stein, he had been extraordinary during my entire IVF process. When I thought there would be no hope for me following the first failed transfer, he was patient enough to come up with another plan to make the next transfer successful and it was successful! I now have a handsome, 4 month old baby boy. I thank God for Dr. Stein.
I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Stein and the entire team at RMA Westside! I could not recommend this practice highly enough! I came to Dr. Stein for a second opinion after having a not so great experience with a different fertility program. I have PCOS/ do not ovulate and my husband and I found out that we were both carriers for the same autosomal recessive disorders, so after discussing our case with Dr. Stein we proceeded with IVF. The whole process was very organized and well laid out. I received a booklet with the anticipated timeline/ expenses, met with a financial assistant and my IVF coordinator (your coordinator is your go to person throughout the entire process for any questions/ scheduling issues you may have). Everything was explained very clearly ans after a very unclear/ overwhelming experience at a previous practice - I was so thankful for this organization!! Routine monitoring hours (vaginal ultrasounds, bloodwork) were 7:00-9:00am daily which allowed me to go before work and still make it in on time. RNs call with results and instructions that afternoon for next steps/ medication adjustments. Educational videos were provided with explanations on medication administration and the nurses made sure all of the correct medications and supplies were ready at my pharmacy. Our egg retrieval and transfer went very smoothly. We were lucky enough to get pregnant after one round of IVF. After the retrieval and biopsy/ genetic testing, we ended up having 4 healthy embryos! We had our first transfer mid October with Dr. Stein and ten days later we found out that it worked! We are due early July :) Once we are ready for baby number 2 we will most definitely be returning to RMA and scheduling our next transfer with Dr. Stein! He was very professional and personable throughout the entire process and had great bedside manner. We are so thankful to him and all the incredible nurses/ other team members!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
