I am a new patient with Dr. Riew. I came to him knowing that cervical spinal surgery was in my future. My surgical video-consult with Dr. Riew took place two days ago. He is the fourth neurosurgeon with whom I have met. Because of a birth defect, I have had six previous orthopedic surgeries so I know how to do my homework before talking with a surgeon. There are certain items I am expecting to hear from a surgeon (without having to ask) during a consult when I know surgery will ultimately need to be scheduled. Of the 4 neurosurgeons I’ve seen, Dr. Riew is the ONLY one who checked EVERY box. That’s when I knew HE is the surgeon I wanted! He went over all the tests/images for which he had results. He fully and clearly described the conditions he saw and the procedures he was recommending. He asked the right questions. He ordered the additional testing I was waiting to hear him say we’re needed. He patiently answered my questions and addressed my concerns, forthrightly and with kindness, giving reasons for his responses. His reasons/responses made sense to me. His staff have all been gracious, kind and quick to respond to my calls. So we now are in the process of scheduling and preparing for surgery in the near future. I have every reason to believe the outcome will be exactly what I need.
