I was a patient of Empire Psychiatry for approximately three to four years and had an excellent relationship with my provider, Maya. If I was allowed to deal solely with her, I would probably still be her client and this would be a five-star review. However, my experience with the office staff over the past six months (or longer) has been frustrating, inconsistent, and ultimately led to my unfair termination as a patient. For years, scheduling was simple: after each session, I would receive an email confirming my next appointment. This system worked seamlessly—until things suddenly changed without notice. I began running out of medication and went months without seeing Maya because I was never sent my next appointment. When I called to ask what was happening, I was suddenly told that patients were now required to make a separate call to the office themselves to schedule after each session. This had never been the procedure before, and no one had informed me of this change. When I called to clarify, I was told this had always been the policy and that I must be mistaken—despite the fact that I had been receiving appointment emails for years. Even Maya acknowledged that many of her patients were having the same issue due to staff and procedural changes. To avoid further scheduling problems, at my last session in January, Maya personally scheduled three months' worth of appointments for me. Now, the office is claiming that never happened, insisting that Maya has never scheduled her own appointments—directly contradicting my experience, again. What’s even more frustrating is that when I first called months ago asking why I was no longer receiving appointment emails, I was told they had never done that. Now, after months of confusion and missed appointments, they are suddenly claiming they emailed me an appointment after my last session in January and that I missed it. Completely contradicting their previous statements that they don't email appointments and never did. As a result of this mismanagement, I have been left without my necessary medications for months. Despite numerous calls asking to speak with Maya or at least communicate with her in some way, I have been repeatedly denied access. I used to have positive interactions with office staff members like Amy and Chris. I especially had a great relationship with Amy. Now, every time I call, I get a different person who gives me conflicting information. I follow instructions, only to be told later that I did something wrong. This inconsistency has caused me significant distress, and the way this office has handled my care has been unprofessional and irresponsible. People’s health and medication management are serious matters—Maya understands this. Even in the past when I was dealing with Maya and one office worker, there was never an issue. For a long time it seemed like I would only have contact with Maya and Amy. I don't recall having any problems. At this point, it feels like they are purposely withholding my medication and blocking communication with my provider as some kind of punishment. I even offered to pay out of pocket, despite the fact that I should not have been charged a no-show fee in the first place. In desperation, I begged to pay the fee they once offered Just so I can have enough medication to make it to my appointment with a new provider. Only to be dismissively told they wouldn’t even take my payment anymore. I was simply told, “Sorry, you were terminated in January. The prescription sent in January is all they will approve. I know they gave you that option a few weeks ago but not anymore. Just stop calling.” Even yesterday, Amy told me she would send a request, leading me to believe they may give me a tiny refill just to get me through the next couple of weeks. But when I followed up today, I was shut down again. This is no way to treat people with illnesses or disorders that are reliant on their medication to live. It is so incredibly demeaning to have to call and beg staff for medicine like a drug addict begging for a fix.

For this being my first time ever seeing a psychiatrist Hannah C is amazing and the receptionist Kris is as well. Very polite and warm hearted makes me feel like I've known them for years

So far my providers have listened, taken me at my word, and supported my needs. I never felt dismissed or like I had to defend my needs. I appreciate they seem knowledgeable and provide a safe space for me.

Five star is too low for this place for what they have done for me. They saved my life. Thank you so so so much, Maya. I was in a very very bad place a year ago, mentally and physically because one of the medications prescribed by my previous psychiatrist almost landed me in a coma, in the middle of which I had to stop seeing him because I couldn’t afford to pay him $400 plus per hour because I was not functional enough to work. It was a vicious cycle and it took a lot of courage to call Empire, I was so desperate for help and they were the only one who took my Medicaid insurance. From the receptionist to the Psychiatrist are SO AMAZING. I can’t say enough good things about them. Maya is incredibly kind and empathic human being and I was consulted every step of the way about my care. Even when I forgot appointments ( executive functioning isn’t the strongest in the middle of an” crisis) and didn’t show up in the teledoc video room, Maya would call my phone and we would have our consult. Making an appointment was always easy and I actually look forward to calling in for medication refill because of how nice everyone is! Also, getting medication refill was a breeze. Because of the incredible compassion and care I received from Maya and team, I stabilized from a horrible horrible place to where I could go back to work in less than three months. Fast forward to nine months, and I am thriving. Got an amazing new job in a leadership position and I am in a very good place mentally and emotionally. Thank you guys god all your hard work and for saving my life. Healing IS possible with the right help!

Very professional and friendly office, which is not so common these days. I've been to numerous psychiatrists in the past for a lot of money since none of them accepted my insurance. My therapist recommended this practice, and I have been really happy as a patient here. They DO take my insurance, which is amazing since I only have to pay a copay (more than happy to) and everything runs smoothly so I don't have anxiety about my appointments, refills etc..Very much recommend Empire Psychiatry.
