As an EMT who took patients here, I would never want my loved ones there. If they were rude to us i can imagine how they are with patients once we leave

I had a fantastic experience at Gracie Square (4th floor). The nurses were very nice and caring. The food was very delightful. The care I received met my expectations. The only caveat is that the room I was staying was very hot at night. Also, there was a delay getting my contact lenses from security, which took a couple of days. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay at Gracie Square and would recommend it to future patients.

I was on the 4th floor and the staff and doctors were very helpful!

Please do not admit your loved one here. There is absolutely NO PERSONAL care given here. Every patient is treated exactly the same whether they have allergies, eating disorder, throwing up, truly psychotic or simply depressed - everyone is put in a dismal room and given the same food and little to no care. They could care less if your loved one eats or not. Their ONLY concern is not being sued for suicides. THATS IT! They barely allow anything in, even if its something completely safe and can bring your loved one comfort. We tried to take our daughter home the next day, but they claimed they have a 72 hr hold rule ("for their safety and proper assesment"). Which means - a room with bed close to the ground, all white walls, tiny window, COMMUNITY SHOWERS, NO PRIVACY, NOTHING showing comfort or compassion. Noisy staff and patients. My daughters room was next to a solitary room with a shower. That patient ran her shower for hours, causing the water to come into my daughters room. She woke up to cold wet floors!! If your loved one is suffering through a psychiatric emergency - bring them to an emergency room only IF you have no other option - BUT OPT FOR OUT PATIENT CARE!! Once you choose to have them admitted - you are stuck with 72 hrs of careless almost torturous care. I cannot believe Asylum-like care of this level still exist today, let alone in NYC! For the love of humanity - do better!!! Americans with mental health issues should be comforted and made better - not worse!! There is a reason why phones/cameras are not allowed and its definitely not for the patients safety .

My stay here was excellent. I was treated so tenderly. I started on the 3rd floor and was moved to be with people my age. Once I came to the 4th floor I was greeted warmly by Judy, Chris, and several other nurse and staffing. I was pleased to have a lot of opportunities to cement a bond with both peers and staff. I got such comfort and understanding from staff. And discharge was no different either; I left with knowledge that this entire staff and peers had my back, but to be well enough to not come back. I’m very grateful for this experience.

The nursing staff is great and the na are great and dr.son is amazing. Shoutout to judy and Audrey. Shoutout to Tim, Josphesph JT and Clinton. Shout out to Sophia, Sal Grace, Morgan, Cheryln, Carlos, Sandra Will(s) and Patrisha. This institution doesnt get enough recognition because people are to busy coping by writing bad reviews. Amazing stuff happens here.

When I was in the hospitalized here they did not give we the patient information folder, I have autism and masked my autism for me. I had to look at another patient had to find out I need a welcome folder that explains my rights and what is seclusion room and why would you get restraints to a bed both arms and both legs and I was put in the seclusion room in a restraints bed with both my legs and arms tied and a nurse said that let’s make you relive what happened at 14 years old again that is traumatic to you which was seclusion room and being restrained to a bed with both my legs and arms and then another autistic patients comes in and she gets to play with her plushie in the seclusion room and have a positive and happy memory of the the seclusion room and I believe I have Borderline personality Disorder because of the suppression of my autism spectrum disorder diagnosis. I have plushies too and plushie make me calm down too but like most hospitals if you can talk and talk back to others they treat you aggressively in the psych ward. I picked up on others social behaviors so that is the treatment I get in most hospitals cold and ruff. I was going back to the hospital after the discharge and a desk worker put his hands on my back and push me out the door and I said I have autism and he said I don’t care.
