Extremely unprofessional and disgusting bad attitude by the staff!Had my apt. scheduled for 8:30 AM (after waiting for 3 months) when I arrived with my baby, the receptionist (bad attitude) said my apt. was cancelled (without notifying me). She said they’ll get back to me but no one EVER called me back. Would’ve given an even lower star if possible.

Overall a surprisingly disappointing experience with adolescent spine care at HSS. First physician Dr Doyle did not recommend appropriate monitoring or follow up of our daughters scoliosis. She assumed the scoliosis was stable and recommended follow up be a year later. The scoliosis progressed dramatically. Very concerned, we switched care to Dr John Blanco also at HSS. He made an appropriate recommendation for a brace which, to be fair, our adolescent was only partially compliant with. His response at follow up was flippant and uncaring. As a fellow physician I understand the challenges the MDs face dealing with patients. I am also very aware of what makes up a poor bedside manner. Neither myself nor my daughter felt any sense of care from this man or trust in his concern for her wellbeing. I will regret the decision to entrust these HSS doctors for the rest of my life. To all mothers of adolescent girls with scoliosis avoid HSS. Their pediatric spine care is just not up to par. We are having a completely different experience at Columbia Orthopedics. Wish we had started with them.

Dr Blanco accurately diagnosed my son with Legg Calve Perthes disease and treated him with a different protocol than other pediatric orthopedists. Crutches and physical therapy versus lay in bed for two years and physical therapy. This review is in retrospect by 22 years. Dr Blanco was at UVA Charlottesvill back then. He and his team were awesome, and when he promoted out of UVA to Mayo, he made sure we had another great doctor (Dr Mark Romness) and consistent support from the remaining team. My son is now 28 years old and able to fully function with just one adjustment to his life: a 5/8-inch lift in his right shoe. Zero surgeries were necessary. The ball at the top of his femur healed as rounded as possible; range of motion is better than expected. My family is so very grateful for having found Dr Blanco. Super smart. Kind and empathetic; compassionate. Very matter of fact. Great experience.

Good looking office and helpful staff until you see the Doctor. Dr. Blanco just made me waste my time and money,. He can't help my 1 yr and a 4 yr. old because his practice is based on Expensive surgeries only and not treating a patient while it is preventable. My solution to the problem according to Dr. Blanco in a disrespectful attitude.and arrogance is to buy expensive shoes my daughter because what I get is "CHEAP" and wait until my son looks or walks like a monkey before he can do surgery when it can be prevented NOW.

He is able to diagnose and treat complex conditions that others misdiagnose, mistreat, or miss all together. And, he does it with a very pleasant easy going demeanor, as if it were easy.

Dr. Blanco performed scoliosis surgery on my 11 year old this summer. I had been taking my daughter to another specialist in the city for a while and someone who worked with Dr. Blanco recommended I see him, just so I can get a second opinion. I instantly knew "he was the one" to get the job done. That day I had to schedule her for surgery. It all happened so quickly. I knew that it was a surgery she would inevitably have to have, I just didn't expect it to happen so fast. Let me just say this...I THINK HIS WORK IS INCREDIBLE! My daughter felt so comfortable with him. His staff was wonderful. His anesthesiologist was AMAZING. He fixed my daughter and she now looks fantastic. He took care of her. He cares. He explained everything. He is a miracle worker. He loves what he does. He checked on her every day. I recommend him highly. I would recommend him to anyone. We got very lucky. I'm grateful I went to see him. My daughter is too. Thank you so much, Dr. Blanco!

I am a nurse and healthcare leader. I know amazing comprehensive care, and Dr. Blanco, his outpatient office team and the HSS inter-professional pediatric surgery team provided high-quality care to my daughter and our family prior to her surgery and throughout the day of surgery. Outpatient follow-up continues with Dr. Blanco and I remain impressed, satisfied and confident in the care my daughter and family are receiving.

This doctor is rude unhelpful most arrogant human I ever seen. He doesn’t have a human soul in his body. He used to work for a different hospital I forgot the name and now he works at queens hospital. He must have gotten fired from the others

John Blanco meets teenage girls on a website called “Omegle” and sexts with them on kik and snapchat. This is not fake unless it is another person with the name John Blanco who lives in New York City. If that is the case I truly apologize.

Not a good experience.Despite HSS service overall was great, the doctor failed to help us.After discussing our case to different HSS specialists we got advised to see Dr. Blanco. My son runs using the base of the foot (sole), not the base and front (toes) and his foot looks to be flat. He is in a soccer team and is looking to improve because runs for few mins and gets exhausted so we agree to see an specialist for advise. Dr Blanco came saw us for I guess no more than 5 mins. Dr asked my son to walk and run in the corridor, he came back confirming he has flat (flexible) foot and that I should buy sneakers with arch support. He said that the real problem was me trying to get more out of my son, and that not all people is born to be Michael Jordan. I didnt get offended but I told doctor is my son the one looking to improve I will be fine with whatever exercise he chooses. Long story short, we got not recommendation of how to really improve my son's foot. I google it and got more advises than the close to four hundred dollars charged to the insurance. We got the confirmation of the flat feet issue but I also felt empty handed leaving his office.
