Leena Mathew's Online Review Report Card

I went in to see Dr. Mathew in absolute despair. I had lost all hope but she took the time took the time to carefully deconstruct my problems. She is THE BEST She explained everything in such detail but in a way that I could understand my disease. She helped me get off harmful medications and found solutions that help me to function better. All other pain doctors tried to push narcotics on me and other medications which had so many side effects. She challenged me gently and at my own pace so I was able to get off all my medicines and improve my overall health in a remarkable way. She helped me to get my life back. I recommend her to everyone.

Superficial understanding of pain combined with curt and condescending bedside manner. Avoid

I saw her three years ago and she told me there is nothing she could do to help me for my pain. Now three years later I just learned I am not able to see any other doctor in their pain management department because of this appointment and her assessment of me three years ago. This is very strange to me. Shouldn't a pain doctor know that pain changes through time as do treatments??? My pain diagnosis isn't that difficult really. It's n See someone else there if you want to get in the door. They don't do ketamine infusion (despite what their website says).

I brought my mother to see Dr Mathew to help her with all her chronic pain but She also has several associated symptoms which make my life quality very poor. She took the time to address each and every concern we had. She spent an inordinate amount of time with us strategizing my mothers care and a wellness plan. She did not throw false promises at us but still gave us hope. She did not throw a list of medicines at my mother. We spent a full 60 minutes with her, never felt rushed and we came out of the office feeling empowered and hopeful for the first time in 15 years. In the 10 months since first seeing her my mother feels like a different person. I appreciate her honesty and how caring everyone in the office were to my mothers needs. I recommend her to everyone. My experience with Dr. Mathews was horrible. In the first visit, I was going over the different treatments I had tried, and her response was "there is nothing I can do for you; you have a chronic condition and there is nothing I can do"!! Having her say this made me feel despair, if she can’t help me then who can? Is my case hopeless? I burst crying like a child. It took some time working with my Pain Management therapist to overcome the effect of Dr. Mathews visit. After about 2 years, my therapist asked me to see Dr. Mathews and start again. When I did see her, guess what she told me? "There is nothing I can do for you". Again! Her visit deeply depressed me. Thankfully I don't suffer from a condition that would have caused me to harm myself (as in suicide) but people with chronic pain could be deeply depressed. If I say nothing and she says something like that to another more desperate and depressed patient and they harm themselves, I would never forgive myself. She’s the worst.

Dr. Mathew is amazing! We are so lucky to have found her. She listens to us, and involves my son in his own medical decisions. She explains things in a way that we both understand. We take the train in to see Dr. Mathew, and we will continue to travel to see her as we've seen other pain management drs near us and have not received the quality and care from them that Dr. Mathew can give us. The absolute best!

Very skilled at treatment (blood patches) for Spontaneous Intercranial Hypotension (CSF leak). Thoughtful throughout the process. Would carefully and rigorously weigh the risks and benefits when deliberating what made the most sense at each step in the recovery and treatment.

As a physician I have referred multiple patients to Dr. Mathew because of her innovative and evidence based approach to pain. She has an outstanding understanding of the science of pain and its management. I have also seen Dr. Mathew as a patient and have been impressed with both her bedside manner and her holistic approach to care.
