Review Summary
St. Luke's Hospital received 42.9% positive feedback, with patients praising the friendly staff and competent surgeons. However, 57.1% of the feedback was negative, primarily citing long wait times, rude staff, and administrative chaos. Overall, the hospital offers quality surgical care, yet it needs stronger organizational processes and patient communication.ScoreDoc Score

List of Mount Sinai Morningside's Reviews
I was very disappointed with my experience. It is very unprofessional for a staff member to tell me that I will be seen and then I wasn't. Also, the way I was treated was rude and inconsiderate. I am already under stress because I am not feeling well, then I had to deal with being treated very poorly and in a hostile manner. I was also disturbed with the radiology tech named Valentina Jaremiko making assumptions over whether or not I have cancer and screaming at me.
Unfortunately, I had to spend a month and 2 weeks at this hospital for a personal health concern. The experience was one of the worst experiences of my life. The following are specific examples regarding my care here. Doctors ------------------------------------- 1) I had valid concerns regarding my treatment options, with my main concern being that I had not yet explored less-risky treatment options before being given highly risky treatment options. Instead of listening and providing feedback regarding my valid concerns on the side effects, the doctor told me to just blindly trust him, as if my input towards my care was not important. Finally, I was transferred to another doctor who had the same concerns I had had regarding my treatment and how it was too early to be considering these more serious treatment options, and I was able to change my treatment options to the least risky alternative that had a chance of working. Unfortunately, I still felt at risk at this hospital regarding my treatment. 2) The attending doctor and social worker on my treatment team was not respectful towards me in general. I was told that "it must be hard being me, always worrying about everything" when I wanted more information regarding an insurance plan my social worker was putting me (Medicaid) on after I had exceeded my current insurance plan's benefits. 3) I was told that I would not be discharged regardless of insurance, and I would be forced to front the cost if I was not discharged. The costs that were told to me were astronomical for a person already dealing with being sick. For one week of inpatient care, they wanted 20k. When I said no, without having my permission to do so, they contacted my parents and asked them to pay. They attempted to scare my parents into paying money; they did not have to keep me in the hospital. After my mom had not been able to pay (I had not been told about this communication from my lying thieving social worker, because she knew I had retracted my permission for her to speak to my parents), my social worker then proceeded to sign me up for Medicaid. The fact that before doing her job and signing me up for an insurance that would pay for my treatment, she went out of her way to scare my parents regarding my condition despite not having permission to speak to my parents, and ask them to pay for my treatment, should honestly be illegal. Shame on her, I still am in awe from this experience. I am now terrified of ever needing to be admitted there again because of the fear of ending up in crippling debt on-top of being put on higher risk treatment plans before lower risk treatment plans are considered. 4) Minimal time was spent communicating with me regarding my concerns, and no emotional support was provided. Despite this, it was commonly written by nurses that emotional support had been provided. Additionally, they had planned to discharge me without having a proper discharge plan in place. 5) They did not order a medication I needed from the pharmacy that I had been prescribed before coming there to manage my pain, and I had to bring it from home to take. Nurses: 1) The nurses were what you get. Some nurses were great, and went above and beyond to help me, provide emotional support, and do simple things for me like taking me to play piano or letting me shave. Other nurses were down right horrible and rude. They yelled at me and my roommate(s) for having concerns regarding medications that we would be prescribed without being told about them, were upset when we corrected them because they were messing up on our medications (which we shouldn't have had the responsibility of doing, yet multiple times I noticed that they were missing my medications), and gave attitude when I asked for my PRNs. The response often was "well what do you want me to do about it?" instead of "what can I do to help?" 2) They didn't consider the trauma associated with being in the hospital environment. For instance, they moved my rooms multiple times, and when I had concerns about the change in environment, they just said "this is a hospital you can't get too comfortable." Of course I'm not comfortable at this shit hole! But I have to be here so why are you making it worse? Also in some situations I was put into dangerous situations. For instance, one roommate who did not want a roommate said that she would bully me until I left even though I had no control of being in that room. I had to stay in that room for an entire night until the day staff finally removed me. When I had complained to the night staff they scuffed me and yelled at me saying "we will not switch your room stop asking." and "what do you want to switch rooms for" rolling their eyes. When I asked for things like a towel, they still gave me attitude. The place and PCAs: The PCAs were generally nice and seemed to care. The ER that I was in for 3 days was nasty. It took them two days to clean urine off of the floor and blood from the curtain.

I cannot stress enough how HORRIBLE my experience was at Mount Sinai Morningside. From the moment my mother was admitted until her discharge, it was an absolute nightmare. The level of care provided by the hospital staff was abysmal, and it resulted in a terrible overall experience and my mother contracting a staph infection, making her heart condition worse instead of better. We came to this hospital specifically for Dr. John Puskas, how he could possibly continue working at this hospital is beyond me. We pray he did a good job, however we don't know that yet because the surgery was in March and now it is almost August and she has not had one day where she has felt well due to a serious staph infection contracted at this hospital (which they let her go home having seen her blood work results which indicated a staph infection). First and foremost, his nursing staff at this hospital were completely incompetent. It seemed like they were disinterested in their patients' well-being and lacked even basic medical knowledge. Every time we asked them about my mother's treatment plan or inquired about her progress, they gave vague, unhelpful answers, if they responded at all. It felt like they couldn't be bothered to do their jobs properly. They didn't give her a shower until many days after she left the ICU. When we brought this up to the charge nurse, she had no idea my mom hadn't had a shower yet. Talk about disorganization and not giving a shit. We noticed an area at the top of her chest that didn't look right and every single nurse including the nurse practitioners, said it was "fine" and "normal scar tissue" which about 4-5 weeks later, had opened up with pus and was actually a very dangerous subdermal staph infection. She then spent a week+ in another hospital where an aggressive antibiotics treatment plan was created for her to reverse the severity of the infection which originated at her surgical sight. The lack of proper hygiene protocols was appalling. It was evident that the hospital didn't prioritize cleanliness, as there were dirty linens and trash left in my moms rooms for extended periods of time. The floor was covered in dust balls under her bed. This unsanitary environment most likely contributed to my mother contracting the staph infection, which is simply inexcusable. Our experience at Mount Sinai Morningside was nothing short of a nightmare. The hospital's negligence and lack of competent nursing care resulted in my mother contracting a staph infection, making her health decline further. I would STRONGLY advise anyone considering seeking treatment here to look elsewhere! Literally.. anywhere else.a

We wish to extend our eternal gratitude to the Doctors and staff on levels 6W and 4E for the wonderful loving care that saved and restored Ann's life.
Ok so I'm here to write a review bc before I came for my surgery I read reviews about this place and it scared the shit out of me. Like almost every recent review is bad, so my expectations were low and I started to brace myself for the worse. I'm so grateful to God my experience was the exact opposite. First off, ALL of the staff and medical personnel was exceptional and extremely polite and caring. Seriously. Everyone. From the triage, to the front desk to the nurses and cna's and doctors. Everyone was professional and kind. They moved me along pretty quickly but it still took an hour before I got to the back. I arrived a little before 8a. I was schedule for surgery at 9:30a and I didn't begin until 9:40a. Not too shabby. Lol. I guess they could see I was nervous so they were extra patient and kind. Everyone had their own personalities. They weren't just robots or miserable ppl. The space was clean. The bed was clean. The bathroom was clean. Such a relief bc I'm a germaphobe and slightly OCD (been diagnosed) so I was thinking if it's filthy I'm speaking up... again thank God it was not. I want to say thank you to everyone. I hope y'all see my review. You all did an amazing job. You were extremely efficient and caring: Two major aspects of a good personalized hospital experience. May God provide you with blessings and favor. Thank you, thank you. Sincerely, A nervous patient from the upper east side.
I visited 114 Street Amsterdam Avenue Emergency room at 5 am Saturday morning, having been exposed to gas fumes inside of my building. Despite explaining this to my doctor, and explaing the buildings ongoing problems with reports of gas fumes found by con edison, the ER doctor refused to give me the test for carbon monoxide that I asked for immediately upon coming in. The doctor also refused to write down my exact words to describe the symptoms that I was having: extreme leg, arms, back overall muscle cramps, and paresthesia like a stroke. Instead, the doctor wrote caugh and downgraded my symptoms to a virus. When I asked the doctor for the carbon monoxide test. Explaing how gas leaks were recently found in the water tanks, gas dryer, and fumes circulated throughout the vents where I lived, the doctor still refused to give the carbon monoxide test. This went on for nearly 5 hours. I gunshot got a different doctor when the shift changed. After 5 hours of trying to advocate for my care and blood gas test, my symptoms began to leave, and subside. This is what happens when a person exposed to toxic gas fumes is removed from the area to a place where oxygen and the air are free of toxic carbon monoxide gas fumes. When I asked the doctor why he didn't give the test, they first said the machine for the test doesn't work.. I told them I would be writing to my representatives to ask for carbon monoxide testing at St. Luke's mount sanai 114 Street hospital because that is a service that is needed. We'll, suddenly they could take my blood, and begin testing for carbon monoxide a whole 5 hours late. After being away and in vlean air, my symptoms went away. I told the doctor that viruses don't go away once a person leaves a gas filled building and returns only when inside of the gas filled building. The doctor said: you have been to other hospitals with these same symptoms, I think it's something else... I told the doctor homeless people often go to several hospitals because we are transfered and moved around so often, often from shelter to shelter. In addition, when a person is working in a different location and has symptoms, we are taken to the nearest hospital. I asked if this is supposed to be their idea of client centered care? I asked why he reduced my symptoms to being viral, body and aches, coughing, when my overwhelming verbal complaints and symptoms were the extreme cramping toes, legs, like a stroke. Why these 2 doctors refused to respect me as a human being, the expert of my health, the person who came in contact with gas, as I retorted the specific gaseous environment inside the building with emphasis that multiple patients visited the ER with similar symptoms from my building, and that one was hospitalized as we soak now fire 2 days for similar symptoms. At this, the person was discharged from the hospital after I revealed this. This is too much of a coincidence. The patient was discharged and reported still feeling ill despite not being notified prior to the discharge and in a Sunday holiday weekend. Treat homless people like human beings. Give non prejudiced client centered care. Don't make up an unrelated diagnosis and symptoms. Give the test immediately upon testing. The hospital was not even crowded, and many rooms were empty. This was a slow holiday weekend, Satirday morning. Don't lie about carbon monoxide tests being not available in your emergency room. More people will show up there soon, but I will discourage as many as possible and encourage a visit to another ER instrad. The doctor said, "Don't come to the ER, Use my primary care instead." I responded, "In the wee hours of the morning, when I'm experiencing an emergency, like chest pains, like paresthesia, in the presence of gas fumes, a primary care doctor is not available.". He said a primary care doctor can do more testing than the hospital. I am very affected, I used to hold St. Luke's hospital with very high regard, as I grew up in this neighborhood. To be treated less than human, and with this level of disregard, it was a very dangerous and very bad experience. I do not recommend this location especially if you believe that you have been exposed to Carbonmonoxide, and or other gas, and especially if you are homeless. Don't even mention being homless in the ER.
Today, 04/15/2023 I had a surgery and was in very deep pain. I tried going to the bathroom and asked the receptionist/lady at front desk on 8th floor looks Spanish had hair in pony tail around 11:30am. She gave me the most disrespect after I told her I have to go to the bathroom now I am in pain. She completely ignored me and told me I am not allowed to use the outside bathrooms, even thou I told her my bathroom in my room was dirty. She didn't bother to call someone to clean it nor even direct me the right way to a bathroom. Lady you are working in a hospital. I felt so disgusted with myself and was in deep pain. That lady should not be working at no hospital. She is extremely rude. Her attitude sucks.
