Noel Keith Maclaren's Online Review Report Card

Only because I think that he is interpersonally a nice man (that is to say that he is well-mannered and refined) do I give Dr. McLaren two stars instead of one. I went to see him years ago and I brought my special-needs daughter there as well. It would never have occurred to me to leave him any kind of review this long after the fact, but now I feel like I must to balance out some of the rest of what I see on this page. I was on a page looking for a new endocrinologist, and he was in the search results. I believe he was probably an excellent doctor once. Now, he prescribes Metformin to almost everybody who walks through the door. That is literally his magic pill. I wouldn't be surprised, to be honest, if he gets a kickback for prescribing it, though how he benefits from that if it's filled generically, I wouldn't know. Metformin caused my daughter to have a seizure at school and be brought to the hospital in an ambulance. Taking it made me feel very sick. After she had her seizure, I took us both of us off this medication. Dr. McLaren spoke to the school nurse behind my back, and took me out of this equation. The school nurse was a buttinski enough as it is. That created stress in my life that I neither needed, nor wanted, and made it more difficult for me to take my daughter off a seizure-inducing medication without appearing to be a negligent parent. In case anybody wonders, I was told by a doctor in the hospital that this drug can be a factor in that, and when I took her off of it, I didn't see another seizure. Most problems have to be solved with diet and exercise if they're metabolic. a pill is very rarely the answer, and Metformin can be dangerous unless you are an actual diabetic. Also, I cannot remember what the exact topic was, but I remember telling him something personal about the contents of my life, oh, yes, I believe it was about somebody I was in a relationship with, because it was abusive and greatly stressing a thyroid condition that I had, and I would later see that in the notes he took, he rendered a value judgment about me. Embarrassingly, I found that out when I had him transfer all my records, including the notes, to another doctor. Plainly, my dignity is very important to this man... and yours will be too (that's sarcasm).

I'm having the same issue. It is very important that I get my medical records and dr. maclaren apparently left no system in place for this. Very unprofessional.

I cannot get my medical records because the doctor didn’t notify me before retiring. None of the listed numbers works.

This guy retired without letting this patient know that he was retiring. Now I have no access to medical records and need to find a new endocrinologist quickly to have insulin prescriptions refilled. Insulin that my life depends upon. How is it legal for an endocrinologist to retire without informing his patients?

Disgusting practice. They will lie on on your medical chart about diseases you don't have. They also bill your insurance fraudulently. I have filed a complaint with my insurance company about their billing practices and with the NY State Department of Health. They are a corrupt practice - do not seek medical advice from this man. Plenty of endos in NYC - go somewhere else. They will steal your money and create a fake medical diagnosis just to bill your insurance. Terrible practice - they are a complete SCAM.

Dr MacLaren is a brilliant doctor who is kind and compassionate. I would recommend him to people with endocrine problems. He has enabled me to have a better quality of life.
