I am horrified that Dr. Roman Nowygrod is still allowed to practice medicine, let alone perform any surgery. He was my surgeon when I donated a kidney to a sibling in 1992. The surgery in those days was an incision running from the belly button to the back and the removal of a rib. I ended up with 2 incisional hernias and a horrific scar that a later surgeon revised gratis. We also found out that all the nerves on my side were severed by Dr. Nowygrod. I have had pain every day since the surgery and major health issues. A friend of mine also had Dr. Nowygrod as a surgeon - he nicknamed him Dr. NO REGARD - because he has no regard for the patient! I remember my father calling him with questions before the surgery and how rude Dr. Nowygrod was to him. I have never met a LESS caring doctor in my life! He treated my dad prior to his death and not only was the most miserable human being I've ever met but his treatment for my dad was terrible, making his circulation problems far worse long-term and resulting in a painful 3 day weekend after Nowygrod ordered a procedure on a Friday and was completely unreachable until Tuesday despite my dad's excruciating pain and repeated calls and emails to him. Upon his return, when I tried to calmly discuss the situation with him, describing the pain my dad was in all weekend he turned his back on me and walked away while I was in mid-sentence. I would spit in his face if I ever saw him again. He should not be a licensed doctor nor affiliated with an excellent hospital like NYP.

I have NEVER met a less caring doctor in my life! My dad was sick in the hospital and Dr. Nowygrod ordered a treatment for my dad on a Friday afternoon of a 3 day weekend. My dad was in so much pain and Dr. Nowygrod refused to answer any emails or calls and did not see my dad again until the following Tuesday. When I tried to talk to him about it when he returned (and no, I was not yelling at him and was calm), he turned his back on me mid-sentence and walked away. He is a miserable human being, and if he is so disinterested in helping his patients and their families, he should retire.

I love this man! He's my type of Dr and gets to the point and takes care of you. No need for coddling here! I you want to get well taken care of, with no no sense this is where you should be. I would recommend him 100 times over.

My 86 year old mother is in Dr Nowygrod care - she went through leg wounds debridement, skin graft, stent installation and has been hospitalized a few times. He is always very attentive to her conditions, and kind. He is not the man of many words, but whatever should be said and done is said and done. His team is always very good, too. I highly recommend Dr Nowygrod

The worst. Sorry I had to give 1 star to post this review...I would give negative stars if I could. Doesn't deserve to practice at Columbia Presbyterian. He's a heartless animal. Run!!

When to Dr nowydrod for swelling in my leg had all kinds of tests and scans he recememded a Stent it did nothing after he or his staff could not care about me would never use him again

He does not have a good bedside manner--no chance to ask questions, he runs out of the door so quickly. After speaking with other doctors, I learned he is notorious for not talking to patients. Can't speak to his surgical skills, but definitely does not make the grade for bedside manner--was left uninformed regarding treatment options for months until I saw someone more conscientious.
