Absolutely superb clinician. If you are within driving distance and have retina health issues, do yourself a favor and see Dr. Chen.

Very precise with discussion of complicated items, and was able to understand my wide range of issues just from reading my file the first time seeing him. He has been working there with great retinologists for years, and felt like Dr. Chen is very focused and eager, and still giving individual attention to patients, and not falling into the volume malaise.

Last I checked this MD (now4.5) or this office (880 3rd Ave.) had 1s & 5s (“1s” complaining staff weren’t respectful etc, while the 5s said this MD had saved or improved their vision). He seems smart, able to think outside the box. Had real insight into very scary symptoms 2 yrs ago. Yet AFTER 7/20 visit I got an inflamed eye. MD himself hadn’t touched it. Others used a physical device to touch my eyes. (Don’t air puffs = glaucoma tests now?). Offc PPE seemed more limited than @ my hairdresser. Staff refused to take check for copay, citing “Covid risk” of touching the paper, YET “wanted” to handle my ins. card. *NET: Office seems to have a number of “issues”, but NOT the MD, who was candid in ways I didn’t expect (& helped me yrs ago @W. 65th office). Should’ve been TELEMED, bc no urgency, plus new AAO guidelines/MDs (eyes now a known Covid entry risk),& NO in-office refraction done. Dr Chen noticed; seemed surprised. GREAT he sees emergency cases, but wish triaged me via TELEMEDIA!

I saw Dr. Chen for a second opinion about having macular pucker or epiretinal vitrectomy surgery. I was extremely nervous about having eye surgery and Dr Chen did not minimize my concerns. He answered all my questions and his confidence, calm demeanor and humor was very helpful. I am so glad that I had the surgery and that he was the surgeon. The residents, clinic and staff were exceptional.

I was dx with a weird eye disease and I have been seeing Dr. Chen for the last 2 years. Excellent and thorough doctor. Dr. Chen always take the time to answer all my questions and concerns. Definitely feel my eyes are receiving the best care and are in the best hands.

Patient thorough knowledgeable. Takes his time with you makes you feel like you’re the most important patient he has. Makes it feel like it’s his honor to work with you. Can’t say enough about his bedside manner. Everything you should want and ask of a doctor and more.

I took my 89 year old mother to Dr Chen as she was visiting from out of town, has macular degeneration and was experiencing light flashes in her one good eye Wanting to be sure that it was safe to keep my mother with me for a week we saw Dr Chen for about 10 minutes. His manner was off hand and while somewhat professional was cold To cut a long story short we were self pay and the bill was $1130 for what I’m not sure Basic pa saying can u read these letters $250 Imaging of retina $350 And get this...office visit $530 What a rip off! Go elsewhere. I left a message for Dr Chen to call me which he never did, he knew we were self pay and not wealthy people. I don’t mind paying for care but I mind being rolled along with my 89 yr old mother. Horrible experience
