List of Scott J. Ellis's Reviews
I almost never write reviews and I almost never like doctors, but my experience with Dr. Ellis was so great that I have to share it. I sustained a Trimalleolar fracture in July 2021 and had surgery with Dr. Ellis several days later at HSS. My recovery has been fast and complete. I joked that I wonder if I even had the surgery because I had so little pain and barely visible scars. Dr. Ellis is not only a rock star deservedly at the top of his field, but is also a warm, kind, and caring doctor. Gotta run (because I can!)
In May of 2021, I severely broke my ankle on a Sunday afternoon in NYC and immediately was transported in an ambulance to a nearby hospital. As a busy professional, mom, and a marathon runner, I was scared that my life would never be the same and that I never would be able to walk or run again. I called Dr. Ellis' office the day after my accident and they saw me that day. Surgery was the following Friday. That was 6 months ago. From the beginning to the end of my care, Dr. Ellis and his staff were exceptional! My ankle is healing as expected and I am beginning to jog again. Within every interaction, they conveyed the utmost care to my physical, mental, and emotional needs. I will be forever grateful for their dedication to their patients and the medical field. Thank you for making a positive difference in my life.
I suffered a pretty gnarly foot injury this summer and Dr Ellis and the entire team at HSS were exceptional - thoughtful, supportive, and transparent on my journey to regaining the ability to walk. I told them this, and will say it here - best experience with a medical team in my life. Absolutely exceptional!
Scott and his PA Steve were incredible to work with across the last 6 months form surgery to recovery. They were professional, thorough, and knowledgeable. No question was left unanswered. Their office staff, could aim to be more professional (specifically on the telephone) and in communications (my pre surgery packet arrived 24 hours before my surgery and was addressed to a different patient!) -- and when the office is busy they tend to run late which is frustrating as a busy professional myself.
This man is a gem. Not only was he referred by a few other doctors who said he is amazingly skilled and knowledgable, he’s also KIND, and patient, and has a great bedside manner. After breaking both feet in a fall, Dr. Ellis fit me in right away, navigated my surgery like a pro, and was endlessly generous with his time and expertise. If you must have a debilitating injury or medical condition, at least know that Dr. Ellis and his team can’t come more highly recommended.
Very poor result from a failed Lapidus bunionectomy. Dr. Ellis was very personable and inspired confidence until the first sign of a non-union showed and he immediately blamed it on my noncompliance. This is simply not true. After a bone stimulator failed to work he wanted to do another surgery immediately saying that the fusion site would never heal and the foot would always be swollen and painful. I chose to wait and it healed with a solid union 9 months later. Unfortunately, the combination of the surgeons poor metatarsal head location, shortening and elevation from the non-union has left my second metatarsal head to handle most of my forefoot contact. It’s very painful when I walk with socks or barefoot. When I pointed this concern out to him again on my 6 month (and last) follow up he was mystified, looked at me blankly and recommended that I get a second opinion. Bewildered, I’ve been on a 4 yr odyssey reading/speaking to other doctors in order to understand the issues/figure out what to do about it. I’m definitely very wary to have surgery on my foot again and wish I’d never gotten the first one. Use caution!
Five years ago, I underwent a total ankle replacement with Dr. Ellis. My ankle remains pain free and has given me the ability to travel extensively (which would have almost impossible prior to surgery). The replacement has had a very positive impact on my life. Both Dr. Ellis and PA Steve have excellent “bedside manner” and have always answered any questions and concerns that I had. I would recommend Dr Ellis and HHS to anyone having an ankle issue.

I came to Dr Ellis in 2014 for help with a painful condition in my left ankle and foot, due to a previous accident and surgery near my home town of Louisville, KY. Walking was so painful that I walked on the side of my foot. After an ankle replacement in February of 2015a follow up surgery in September of that year and physical therapy near my home, I was able to walk again without pain. I actually had to learn how to walk normally again! I have been back to see Dr Ellis every year since then for follow up visits. He and his staff have always been so considerate and helpful and have responded to any question I have had. My thanks to Dr Ellis, Carlos Kanlong and all the staff there for their skill and care over the last few years.
Amazing! Dr. Ellis and his staff made pre-op, surgery and post op recovery for my daughter an easy process. They communicate and made sure we knew the step by step process after an achilles tear. She is an athlete with a future in college athletics ahead. They have made it possible for her to have a great senior season and we cannot thank them enough! You guys rock!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
