List of Tongalp H. Tezel's Reviews
Simply the best. After my failed surgery at my own hospital, my friends helped me research extensively both nationally and internationally for the best surgeon to remedy. Finally I came to Dr. Tezel and had successful surgery. The result is well beyond expected and I truly believe it is the best possible outcome. I should have come to Dr. Tezel at first. Thank you Dr. Tezel! Thank you Dr. Chang and the staff at Columbia Eye Institute!
I had a ruptured globe and ruptured cornea and a detached retina had I 5% chance to see after two surgeries I am on the mend to a full recovery. Thank you Dr Trief and Dr Tezel.
I am so happy my retina specialist sent me to Dr. Tezel. I have a rare eye disease, along with many complications, and Dr. Tezel has been instrumental in helping me regain my vision. I am on the path to independence again. He always takes the time to explain and listens to my questions and concerns. He is a very caring person with a good sense of humor to put one at ease. I highly recommend Dr. Tezel, ...
Dr. Tezel said that the diagnosis made by my previous doctor (a prestigious researcher and clinician) was wrong. I saw another highly respected ophthalmologist after I saw Dr. Tezel, and he disagreed with Dr. Tezel and agreed with my former MD re diagnosis. Dr. Tezel refused to look at records I had brought with me saying, “I only believe what I see myself.” (Some of the records were photographs). He suggested an expensive blood test to determine the proper eye vitamins to use; this test has been discredited because the research behind it could not be replicated. Dr. Tezel was astoundingly arrogant and not interested in listening. In his chart notes, he reported discussions that had not taken place.
Dr. Tezel is wonderful. He may come across serious at first, but is actually quite funny and personable. He is incredibly knowledgeable, detailed and wants the best for not just your eyes, but the function of your whole body as it relates.
Very pleasant feel confident For him to perform my surgery
Awesome, he saved my eye due to a very Trumatic incident.
Terrific doc. Very pleased with surgery results.
Dr. Tezel (actually also Professor) is the Director of the Retina Division at Columbia Presbyterian, one of the leading Ophthalmologist centers in the US. Based on my own experience, Dr. Tezel is the most caring, knowledgeable and talented ophthalmologist surgeon I ever went to. He fixed my macular pucker and hole to perfection as I now have 20/20 for the eye he operated on. I would recommend him to anyone having any sort of retina issue, and as a bonus, he has a fantastic sense of humor.
It is unfortunate but I cannot give this doctor a star. Please note that my review is not based on his professional ability but rather the services provided to me by his staff. I had an appointment for 9:15 am. I was coming from downtown Brooklyn. There were delays on the trains as well as the buses. I called his office twice to inform him of the situation and that I was running late. I was told not to worry but to get there as soon as I could. I got there at 9:45 to my surprise I was questioned and literally scorned. They asked me to wait and see if the Doctor could make time for me, after waiting an extra 10 minutes I was told the Doctor could not see me because if he did he will leave his office late. I wished they had said that when I called twice but to make me come that far and to dismiss me in such manner, I find is unprofessional and disrectful. I do not believe that this doctor understand the problems we New Yorker face with public transportation and I do not think that he cares for his patients. He did not even see me for a second to assess the urgency of my situation. I am glad that providence did not trust my eyes to this doctor.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
