John P. Sugrue's Online Review Report Card

I first saw Dr. Sugrue in 2004 for sinus issues. He explained that I had a deviated septum but did not require surgery at the time, but probably would at some future point. Fast forward to 2019 after suffering with chronic sinus infections and impaired breathing for 7 years, I gave in and underwent sinuplasty and turbinate reduction. This was a life changing procedure that restored my ability to breathe unimpaired. I was foolish to have waited so long. Dr. Sugrue has done over 3500 of these procedures and answered all my questions in depth. Experience like this is mandatory for a successful outcome. My procedure lasted 2 hours longer due to anatomical surprises that presented difficulties. Dr. Sugrue refused to give up and achieved the desired result. You are in good hands with him.

Horrible experience. I saw Dr. Sugrue back in January this year and it has taken me this long to write this review because I hate writing bad reviews. This doctor resembles a used car salesman. At my first appointment he did a nasal endoscopy which is fine as I knew he needed to see what exactly was wrong with me. He then sent me for a CT of the sinus cavities. After having my CT done a few weeks later, I was told my results cannot be released because my doctor doesn’t release them until he gets to review them first. First red flag as this has never happened to me before with any other doctor. I proceeded to make an appointment for three days later....Annoyed that I had to wait for my results that had to do with my body. At the first appointment I had very specifically informed Dr. Sugrue that I was not interested in any surgical procedures unless absolutely necessary. At my second appointment Dr. Sugrue’s nurse left the CT scan on the desk in the room I was waiting in for 40 minutes. I proceeded to read it. Thankfully I’m very well-versed in these reports and I was able to see that the only thing wrong with me was chronic sinusitis, and chronic rhinitis. Absolutely nothing else. When Dr. Sugrue finally arrived into the examination room about 40 minutes later he informed me that the CT scan was clearly read wrong! He proceeded to tell me that sometimes the radiologists who read these reports do not know how to read them properly and they miss things. Well isn’t that comforting? However he was told by his assistant that the report was read by a very good radiologist and he then started telling me “well he missed things!!!”Then he proceeded to tell me that the only way that this “issue” I have can be fixed is with surgery. Very unprofessionally, he turned to the girl taking notes in the room with his back to me, telling her of a surgery that he performed in the City on someone who had symptoms similar to mine and the person is very happy with the surgery. I was already late for work and I distinctly told him I wasn’t interested in any surgical procedures especially since my reports came back fine and I put a lot of credence in the radiologists that read them. This was a huge waste of my time and my copay along with my insurance company’s payments to him. He then wanted to perform another nasal endoscopy (for more money) which he had performed three weeks prior but told me “that one isn’t good anymore because it’s so long ago.” I smelled major BS at this point. I refused the test. He told me he even has a pediatric scope he can use so it won’t hurt as much. I refused that as well. He became extremely belligerent and upset at my refusal. Of course, because he was only getting payment for a follow up visit from me that day. Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice.....This doctor seriously resembles a used car salesman trying to sell a surgery that clearly was not needed. I am still so very upset about this as I now will have a very difficult time trusting any doctors that I go to see. So thanks so much Dr Sugrue for being so dishonest. I hope someone learns from my review.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr Sugrue through a referral from my dentist. Dr Sugrue is a highly professional and experienced ENT. He explained in great detail my case which required surgery. The surgery went great. I am extremely pleased with the results. I would definitely recommend Dr Sugrue for any ENT issue you are experiencing. You will be very pleased.

Dr Sugrue caused me serious injury. After an in-office procedure, I developed a septal abscess, which he had no success treating. He neglected to refer me to an infectious disease specialist for 10 WEEKS. He let an abscess persist IN MY SEPTUM for 2/12 MONTHS. I now haves a “saddle nose” as a result of Dr. Sugrue’s neglect and incompetence. All the supportive cartilage disintegrated. The reconstructive surgery requires taking a bone graft from my rib. I required 5 weeks of IV antibiotics, twice a day. All because Dr. Sugrue was so arrogant that he didn’t want to refer me to another doctor. After 2 weeks of the abscess, my entire family wanted me to find another doctor... but I had faith in John Sugrue. It was ill-placed, he did me harm. Don’t trust doctors blindly.

Dr. Sugrue is one of the most knowledgeable and skilled ENTs. He did a successful sinus surgery on me three years ago and my life is great again! Anytime I went to see other doctors or CT/lab technicians, they often asked, "Which ENT do you see?" When I answered, "Dr. Sugrue, " all of them exclaimed that their son/neighbor/father went to him and were very happy with him. So when other doctors are sending their friends & family to Dr. Sugrue, you know you've got a good one. Also, I got a second opinion from a different ENT prior to my sinus surgery. He told me I was in excellent hands with Dr. Sugrue.

Gives an appointment at a certain time. Calls you in an hour later. Always backed up. EVERYTIME

Dr. Sugrue is an excellent doctor. He has a wonderful bedside manner and spends a lot of time with me at each visit, answering my many questions and offering helpful information. He did my sinus surgery in May 2018 in his office- no general anesthesia and the recovery was a breeze-no packing! For the first time in my life I can completely breathe through my nose-no more mouth-breathing!!! I no longer suffer from nasal Vcongestion, sinus pressure, nor headaches. I highly recommend Dr. Sugrue!!!

Sudden loss of hearing was met with “The next available appointment is 6 days in the future.” This to a person with no hearing in the opposite ear. Such concern is hard to explain.This review is amended by noting that I was able to get an appointment in a more appropriate timeframe and received good care for my problem.
