I have SLE Lupus. I live 6 hours away from in NYC to see a specialist at the Lupus Center in Manhattan due to my complications and severe allergies to medications. While staying in Queens I got sick called 911 and brought to the closest hospital Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. I was tested and told I had pneumonia last night, wheezing was very concerning and they may need to incubate me. This morning Dr. N. Patel was irritated that I was asking questions about plan my care and clarifying my plan of care. I did yell at him out of frustration cause he felt I should not be asking questions. I told him it was my patient right to be clear on my plan care. I requested at new doctor before 10:00am. I met with Pain Management and we came up a plan of care that will help me. Respiratory came to give me a breathing treatment but I ask to wait until I take pain meds cause it give headaches. It will be easier after. When the nurse came to give me meds they were changed to all oral medications and Dr. N. Patel decided not to take Pain Management recommendations. I have not been able to keep down food. I haven’t eaten in two days and barely take water. By this time it is after 1:00pm. I ask to speak to someone that’s when I was told “We are done with you. You are being discharged. You are breathing better.” No one came to discuss discharge or check my breathing. Dr. Patel refused to come speak to me. I had to get social workers, patient advocate and my case manager back home involved. Now I have to fight a bogus discharge cause a Dr. Patel don’t want to answer my questions now accept the fact I requested a new doctor. So now he wants me out even though I am still wheezing. My chest still hurts when I breath, still have chills and cold sweats.
My brother was brought into Jamaica Hospital by ambulance. Dr. Nilesh Patel was assigned to him. Dr. Nilesh Patel went above and beyond all my expectations. He was extremely knowledgable, compassionate and quickly assessed my brothers situation and got him on the mend for a timely manor discharge. Me being in Florida and my brother in Queens was not an easy situation but Dr. Nilesh Patel kept in close contact with me and I felt 100% confident my brother was in excellent hands. I appreciate all Dr. Nilesh Patel has done for my brother and for the piece of mind and confidence he gave to me. Thank you to Dr. Nilesh Patel in Jamiaca Hospital ....
