List of John H Tu's Reviews
It was my first time going Dermatology Associates of Rochester and he made me feel like I was wasting his time. I had an 8am appointment, so I know I was his first patient of the day. I tried explaining how I have two moles that look concerning. They've gotten bigger and are two toned. He spent, and I'm not exaggerating, less than 1 second looking at each of them. He said I can't just get them removed because I don't like them and all but had to get him to say he'd do a biopsy on them. He is rude and is incredibly dismissive. The woman in the room working with him had such an apologetic look on her face while he was talking so rude to me. I honestly feel bad that she probably has to deal with him most days. If you have to go here I DO NOT recommend seeing Dr. Tu. I will be going to a different dermatology place to have my moles actually looked at. I do not want this doctor touching me at all and will not schedule my biopsy with him. He's the worst doctor I have ever interacted with.
I have had to see Dr. Tu on several occasions, primarily because no other doctor at the practice was available. Both times he was extremely rude. He tried to prescribe me a medication that has adverse reactions with my antidepressant that I have been on for over 10 years and asked me if I could go off of the antidepressant to take the one he wanted me to, with no care in the World about what might happen if I was not on my antidepressant. I have several friends and family that went to him as well and have heard nothing but negative reviews. Other dermatologists in the area also have negative things to say about him. The only NPs I liked in the office left and ended up switching practices, primarily because of my negative experience with Dr. Tu.
I saw Dr Tu for itching and changes in my nails. After an exam he told me emphatically several times that I was not giving him any information that he could use to help me. He was rude and told me to come back for a full body exam. I am not going back to him!
I am a transgender man and have never met a provider so insensitive. I was seeking care for taking Isotretinoin (accutane) which you need to provide negative pregnancy tests for if you have the anatomy for having babies because the medication causes birth defects. This man asked me on multiple occasions "If I was being treated as a man or a woman". He was rude and dehumanizing. I am no stranger to educating providers on how to care for people like me but he was so terrible I said whatever I had to for the appointment to be over as soon as possible. I feel sorry for any of his future patients especially if they are transgender.
First I was on hold with the office 15 mins before I was cleared to come in. They did not ask any covid questions or take my temperature even though Monroe county was in an orange zone. They collected my copay over the phone before I was allowed to enter the building and now I wish I'd never paid a nickel! This was the worst experience with a doctor EVER! Dr Tu was arrogant, rude and condescending. He talked over me way more than he listened. Seemed to want to push me off on someone else for a consultation and NEVER EVEN had me pull my mask down to LOOK AT MY SKIN! His assistant told me, "Yeah, he usually just takes your word for it." SERIUOSLY?!? If I knew what I needed would I have driven 45 minutes and paid a "professional"?!? Then they sent my prescription to "their" pharmacy and said someone would contact me in a couple days with information so I could decide if I wanted to proceed. It's been three days and no one has contacted me yet...It's too bad because the team upstairs at the Derma Spa is AWESOME! Kristyn has helped me in one visit sooo much more than anyone else ever has, and she seems a lot more knowledgeable than this "doctor."

After moving to Rochester, went to see Dr. Tu for a recommended yearly checkup for Melanoma on many moles I have. He said that I have too many for him to look at, so I should just have my wife keep on eye on the ones I can't see and take photos if she or I see any that are abnormal. I had to pay for this visit just for him to tell me that my wife and not him should look at the moles. My previous doctor would go throughout the entire body with a magnifying glass and inform me or remove the ones she though may be a problem.
He is my children’s dermatologist and I am very happy with the care he gave them and with the detailed explanation he gives about all the treatment options to both me and the kids.
Dr. Tu did my first HALO laser treatment in June. He was great! He was very thorough in explaining every step of the treatment, checked to make sure I was doing OK multiple times and explained what I could expect in the next few days. I love my HALO results! My skin has been so much healthier and radiant since this treatment.
wow, rude, dismissive and insulting. Made me feel like he was scraping me off the bottom of his shoe.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
