My aunt has Stage 4 cancer. I am her medical proxy, and I have a background in molecular biology. I ask fair questions, which has helped us navigate this difficult process. Dr. Kimmell was not only reluctant to answer my questions, but he was terse, rude, and quick to leave the room, stating he had other patients to see. In addition, he wasn’t even sure if one of her tumors could be ablated - he needed to consult with the biotech manufacturer. The next day, he called my aunt, explained he could treat both tumors, and attempted to schedule her for surgery. Suffice to say, we got a second opinion at UR. Not only was the surgeon kind, patient, and well-experienced with the procedure we were discussing, but he recommended a conservative approach that seemed to make the most sense. The point here is that Dr. Kimmell should be avoided. He has been, by far, the worst doctor we’ve consulted through this entire process.

Dr Kimmell removed a cancerous tumor from my brain and I believed he saved my life as the surgery was performed the week it was found. I have had an amazing recovery in all this - God certainly used him!

Dr. Kimmel was great and my surgery went very well. My follow-ups,so far, have been with Joe McGreevey, Kimmell’s PA and he is also extremely helpful and knowledgeable. My next appointment is with the doctor. Very happy with my care.

Dr. Kimmell and the staff at Unity Neurosurgery were amazing. I met with Dr. Kimmell, as well as two other doctors, after being told that I had some significant disc issues by my general practitioner. All 3 of the specialist recommended surgery. The whole idea of neck surgery was very scary and unsettling. I chose to have Dr. Kimmell be my doctor because he took the time to explain all of my options and treatments to me. He was very thorough at looking over my scans and examining me. He was very confident and knowledgeable. He recommend the surgery that was the best option for me. While I was waiting for surgery to be approved, this was all happening around the time that the second wave of Covid had hit our community, he was attentive, caring and compassionate to what I was going through. He called me personally on a holiday. The staff called to check on me. Everyone has been very attentive to me and sympathetic to me. These people truly care about making sure that you are healed.

I would highly recommend Dr. Kimmel. Very personable, takes the time to explain what's going on, and highly skilled. He actually spends some time with the patient, unlike some doctors... in the exam room and out as quickly as possible. I have great faith in Dr. Kimmel.

My last visit with Dr Kimmell was a very short visit..so short that when I checked out the secretary said "that was a fast visit". He looked at my surgery site and never asked about my previous concerns about my muscle spasms I was having. I did the talking. I was going to ask for a MRI cause I am still having problems plus I wanted to make sure my back was ok before he "kick me to the curb". Because I could tell that was the next step. I was glad he did order the MRI. When I first went to him I thought he would be the surgeon that could help me plus he acted like he cared. After surgery when I saw him for post-OP visits I noticed each time the visits was getting quicker and quicker and show less that he cared about how I really feel. I do no think I would reccomend Dr Kimmell to my family or friends.
