List of Peter N Capicotto's Reviews
I personally had a spinal fusion by dr capicatto. He was very knowledgeable and the surgery was a complete success. 8 months post fusion I’m living a normal life and back to work. No leg pain/back pain anymore. I would recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Capicotto reviewed my mylogram and determined a second surgery was not merited. He recommended pain management going forward
I mistakenly gave this Dr . 2 stars on the review. I would not give a positive review to him. His office assistants are very nice and helpful. There are many people working there and I have not had a bad experience. My zero star review is specific to Dr. Capicotto
Please avoid this Dr. He recommended a spinal fusion that did nothing to repair the underlying cause of pain. This surgery resulted in lacerated dura mater , spinal fluid leak and staph infection at the surgery site. A second emergency surgery was needed to wash out the infection. This surgery was performed by a different more competent surgeon. Total days in hospital was 10 and picc line inserted for home antibiotic infusions for 3 months prescribed by an infectious disease specialist. 1 year later the pain is constant and loss of financial stability is significant due to being diagnosed totally disabled. After not hearing from his office for 6 months, primary care physician ordered physical therapy and referred me to pain management. Dr. Cappicotto is not an asset to Rochester's medical community. I should have done more research but the pandemic made it difficult to get appointments and I was desperate for an answer after trying everything to avoid surgery. He started with herniated disc removal then months later he recommended the fusion. I had 3 back surgeries in 11 months and I kept complaining of pain in my SI joint but was ignored. I am now being treated by pain management for my SI joint which was my original point of pain. Two physicians have said the fusion was unnecessary. Avoid Dr. Capicotto, unless you want to listen to him talk about his expensive shoes.
Dr. Capicotto is a lousy, ignorant, doctor who picks and chooses who he will help and who he will ignore. If you are attempting to become one of his patients, good luck to you because he is full of crap.
Dr. Capicotto evaluated me for spinal stenosis from which I have been suffering for 15 years. He drew a bell curve and showed me on the upside that in my 20s and 30s I was not in pain. Then at the top of the curve he said “now you are 65 and in a lot of pain. He told me on the down curve that once I was in my 80s that my vertebrae would fuse themselves and I would be out of pain. So I have to wait until I’m in my 80s to be out of pain and enjoy life again. I couldn’t believe this guy thought I was so stupid that I would just go along with this JOKER of a lousy doctor. I have since found another neurosurgeon who is helping with my pain relief with a back brace, cortisone shots in my lower back and aqua physical therapy in a 92 degree pool. I haven’t felt this good in 15 years. Dr. Capicotto obviously chooses who he thinks is worth helping and who he thinks is stupid enough to sit in a chair and wait until they are in their 80s to be out of pain.
Dr Capicotto, replaced 3 disks in my neck 14 years ago. I could not feel my hand prior for 10 years. After the surgery and to this day no issues. He also fix a syatic nerve problem about 5 years ago. He is fantastic, the best.
Dr. Capicotto completely ignored every aspect of my back pain and spinal stenosis. He blew me off, offered no assistance whatsoever. I wouldn’t recommend him to anyone. I am now under the care of a different neurosurgeon who is helping in several ways to relieve my pain thru cortisone shots to my L4-L5, Physical Therapy, and the use of a back brace. I haven’t felt this good in 15 years. Apparently Dr. Capicotto picks and chooses who he wants to help and who he doesn’t feel is worthy of his time. He gets a big thumbs DOWN in my experience.
I owe Dr. Peter Capicotto a HUGE THANK YOU! Six years ago he performed major spinal surgery on me and it was a GREAT SUCCESS! I have been a new person since my recovery and I owe it all to him!
I have been a patient of Dr.Capicotto’s for many years …he did my first fusion over 20 years ago…great results! I had a fall about 10 years ago and went back to see him…After Multiple films and test we decided at that time surgery was not going to be The best option…So we decided to treat it conservatively.. for the past 10 years I have been doing acupuncture, massage therapy, injections &physical therapy with fairly good results… then this past year I had this god-awful pain I couldn’t walk I couldn’t stand and I was sleeping on the floor for six months… I had a hip issue going on at the same time and before he would agree to do surgery on me he wanted to make sure what exactly the problem was causing the pain I had hip or back… I was convinced it was the hip after multiple back-and-forth between hip surgeon and Dr. Capicotto it was determined it was coming from the back. It was his thoroughness and his determination to find the root of the problem prior to just doing surgery that instilled my faith in him once again. I am just about three weeks From my last surgery he removed the hardware from 20 years ago and then fused an area that I had the problem. I can tell you where I am now sleeping in my bed all night long and I have ZERO nerve pain and I can walk… If you are considering surgery with this doctor rest assured he will not do it unless it’s absolutely necessary and you will achieve the outcome you both are hoping for!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
