You can not find a better old school doctor who keeps with time and knows the lates treatment methods.!

Horrible experience from beginning to end. The staff is unbelievably rude and the scheduling department will constantly call and reschedule your appointment the day before. At my first appointment I waited an hour and a half to be seen. I was the only person in the waiting room and I showed up on time with all my blood work sent in a month prior. I spent another two hours in the examination room and saw the doctor for a total of about thirty minutes. After all that, he couldn't give me even a vague idea of what was going on with my illness. He rambled about the shape of the thyroid and his love of baseball for awhile, then ordered more blood work and scheduled a follow-up. I figured by the next appointment we'd make some progress, but it went on exactly like this every month for almost a year. I finally got a second opinion and the second doctor had no trouble diagnosing my illness and explaining the treatment and prognosis. I can't believe how much time I wasted at Dr Heinig's office.

My daughter has tried to get into Dr. Robert E. Heinig numerous times after being a patient of his for four years. Every previous appointment he had to cancel or rush out on us for numerous emergencies. Now that her condition has worsened twenty fold, multiple urgent request from her primary neurosurgeon have been ignored

Chronically dismissed my abnormal thyroid labs as normal, and told me I couldn't have a thyroid problem because I was too young to have one. Overlooked all my symptoms and his advice was to, "go home, you'll feel better." Forgot what labs he ordered and often didn't look at them, or didn't order what he promised. His nurse was rude, snippy and unfriendly. He saw many patients at a time, leaving me to wait in the room for up to an hour with him ducking in here and there for maybe a total of ten minutes of actual time spent with him. Went to see someone different and he ended up diagnosing me with a thyroid problem which was discovered through a simple blood test that was never done. A thyroid problem which Heinig claimed was all in my head and I just couldn't of had. Don't go to him.

AWFUL. He ignored my bloodwork showing I had a thyroid problem and told me there's no way I could have a thyroid problem because I was "too young." He forgot labs, didn't order labs like he promised, and just told me I was basically nuts. Ended up seeing someone else and (surprise) the blood work Heinig didn't do showed my thyroid was off. His nurse is the rudest woman and Heinig seemed friendly enough, but was so busy with other patients, I never saw him for maybe a total of ten minutes.

I have been a patient of Dr. Heinig for over twenty years. I consider him a friend as well as an outstanding endocrinologist. He is very busy, but he will return calls. Dr. Heinig and I have had many conversations about treatment options. He is very up to date on the latest research and in addition to diabetes is an expert in hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol).It is hard to get an appointment and there will be no reminder calls from his office. His staff consists of a very busy secretary that you will never see and an LPN who is nearing retirement. He likes computerized reports but for those not computer literate, you must bring your manual log book records.

He seems to have many patients at once, resulting in long waits in his exam rooms just to come in for five minutes and tell me "Yep, take more/less, medicine, bye!" He's a nice enough guy, but he doesn't remember any labs I JUST had done, nor does he go over how I feel/symptoms...he just tells me "I'll feel better." And sends me on my merry way even though I was having problems. I wouldn't recommend him, to be honest.

The problem I have with the office is the fact that they cancel and reschedule appointments CONSTANTLY (even the day prior to the appointment). According to the quality assurance office at Rochester General Hospital they have received multiple complaints about this issue. The nurse there is rude and does not seem to care about the patients. Although I like Dr. Heinig I cannot tolerate the office behavior and am now searching out a new Endocrinologist.

I was searching the Rochester area to see if Dr Heinig was still in practice. I was a patient of his and was 1st diagnosed with advanced Juvenile Graves' Disease in 1976 by him. I really do believe if it wasn't for him I would not be alive today. I'm considering moving back to Rochester from Arizona and would want to be a patient of his again. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone with endocrine problems.

When I was referred to Dr. Heinig from my primary physician I was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. I thought that this "specialist" would do more than just put me on medications and really be my care provider with this problem. However, he did nothing but diagnose me and prescribe me with a few prescriptions and nutrition tips. The appointment was very awkward he just came out and said you have diabetes and this is what you need to do. It was as if he was indifferent to my situation.I feel that because I did not have health insurance he discriminated against me with my overall care. I switched specialists after one appointment with Dr. Heinig.
