Yes, the waits can be long. I've been going to Dr. kennedy for a long time due to a specific retina condition I have. I don't mind waiting as long as when I'm seen, I'm not rushed so time is made up on my "dime". That is never the case with Dr. Kennedy. He is compassionate and listens thoroughly to all concerns. Please know he's nationally recognized as an expert in the field of retina disease; it's a blessing to have him in Schenectady. I've never had a problem getting an appointment scheduled for me or a family member when I've contacted his office staff. They've always been helpful.
I'll preface this review by stating that the Doctors and their service is good. I've been going there for several years and have no complaints with the Doctor care. The problem is with the OFFICE and the way it operates. Every visit takes a LONG TIME . A typical visit usually takes well over an hour. Theres usually a 30 minute wait after the scheduled time before being seen by the Doctor. The exam usually takes another 30 to 45 minutes due to the pupil dilation. Its by far the longest Doctor visit of the many that I have annually. My last experience was the worst and my final visit. I arrived 10 minutes early for my 10:00am appointment. I sat in the waiting room until 10:40am when I was called and ushered into an exam room. After a brief chart read conducted by a nurse I sat alone in the exam room for another 20 minutes. At 11:00am I decided to leave as I knew I would probably be there for another hour or so. When I left I stopped at the receptionists desk and told her that I had been waiting for an hour and I was leaving. Her response was "Okay" . There was no other discussion and no follow-up of any kind. I schedule all of my annual Doctor visits around the same time of year. Every one of them is on time, friendly, and efficient, as seems to be the norm these days. This office seems to not care about their patients time and has done nothing to improve over the years. I'll miss the Doctors care but its definitely time for me to move on.
We had a 9:30 eye appointment, with Dr. Kennedy. We arrived and signed in at 9:15. At 10:00 I asked why the delay, so early in the morning. Receptionist curtly replied, "they are very busy". No other comforting comment. Wondering how many clients were scheduled at this early hour ???
WHY IS IT SO HARD TO FIND DECENT HELP NOWADAYS? FRONT DESK LADY, WAS SHORT AND RUDE. MADE AN APPOINTMENT W/ DR KENNEDY, AND WHEN I GOT THERE THEY SAID I WAS SEEING DR. THOMPSON? NOT GOOD, SHOULDVE BEEN ASKED IF I WANTED AN APPT. W/ HIM, SO WHEN I ASKED HER WHY I DIDNT GET TO SEE DR KENNEDY, SHE SHRUGS HER SHOULDERS, WITH AN ''I DONT KNOW'' THEN I WAS IN THE EXAMINING ROOM FOR AN HOUR !! UNPROFFESSIONAL! NOW I MUST SAY, SHE DID TELL ME THAT DR. KENNEDY DOES NOT WORK ON THE DAY I WENT IN, BUT THEY SHOULDVE TOLD ME THAT WHEN I MADE THE APPT, OR CALLED ME TO SEE IF I WANTED TO RESCHEDULE! I SPENT TIME DOING MY RESEARCH AND ASKING AROUND FOR A GOOD DR, (DR KENNEDY,) ONLY TO HAVE BEEN THROWN TO ANOTHER DR. SMH !
Always a long wait. They ask you to come early and then you have to wait even longer. Sometimes I’m here 2 hrs. My time is very important to me. Dr is good just hate the long wait.
We go there for annual checks, no major health issue. Hence I do not have a particular issue with the physicians and cannot comment on their experience. However, a very chaotic practice and excessive wait times (> 2 hours), and a staff that is simply indifferent, and even rude, to patients time is unacceptable. I am finding another physician. Simple.
Dr. Kennedy is wonderful opthalmologist, but another wonderful person is Katie! She is just stellar at what she does as far as being the sweetest, kindest, caring receptionist/scheduler I've had the pleasure of encountering. I hate to say this but when a certain voice answers the phone, I hang up and call back for Katie because I know she won't be rude or nasty! This lady needs to be recognized, appreciated and given a raise. She makes one bad apple forgotten.
Fine doctor but office is run very poorly. Expect excruciatingly long wait times.
If I could rate this place a minus 2 I would. A 1 is too good for them. They were recommended by Ellis Hospital after an emergency room visit. The first appointment I sat in the doctor's chair, not the waiting room, but the examining room for over 45 minutes before the doctor came in. OK things happen. They got grace that time. They scheduled a followup appointment for me. It was today at 11:00. I work over an hour away. I drove all the way out there to be told the doctor wasn't in and

I had the appointment card with me. It was for 11:00 am. No notification, no nothing. Just a complete waste of my time, twice! So unprofessional. I wouldn't go back to this place is my eyeballs were literally falling out of my head. Be warned people. Find another eye doctor.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
