List of Phelps Hospital's Reviews
Probably one of the worst in westchester county. Nursing is definitely horrific. This hospital should be closed down.
I have been going to Phelps for nearly 40 years. It has finally turned so corporate and disgusting that I cannot consciously go back any longer. I arrived Monday into the ER with acute pancreatitis. A painful issue as anyone who has experienced it knows. I was informed I was being admitted and then my care stopped. Not a bag of IV fluid or pain medication or even a “hey how are you?” In nearly 7 hours. I was then brought to my room around 10pm. By 4am they were waking me up telling me they made a mistake and that I needed to go to the ICU immediately. Fine. Mistakes happen. I spend the next 2 nights in ICU taking the pain medications and fluids as directed. By the end of the third day, I start to notice that there is a serious sense of judgment for utilizing the pain medication. “When are you going to stop using that? You know you can’t go home until you stop using that…” so in pain and wanting to go home, I grinned and beared it on tylonal and iv fluid alone. Good right? Not so fast! “So since you have not utilized the pain medicine, we are going to transfer you to another floor. Don’t worry, it fine!”. Like a good soldier, I took it on the chin. Asked for an ambien to help me sleep because sleeping is tough in a hospital. Not a problem said the doc. I was on my merry way to my 4th, yes 4th, bed of the trip. Slept fine as possible. Roommate has many visitors but I was gracious. Kept to myself all day. At 930pm I notice that my roommate has 5 visitors still and it’s late. The tech asks me “are you able to sleep?. I say no but I’m going to ask for my sleeping meds and drown it out. Nearly Immediately the nurse came in to inform me that 1. The NP supervisor flat out refuses to give me the ambien to sleep but she would prescribe a heavy narcotic to me to help me sleep (go figure!). 2. That the guest rule is 24/7 and the guests can stay. 3. I will be moved to a different floor because someone needs my bed. Welp, I was done being a good soldier. I let all of my thoughts be well known to an audience of gathered staff and security (whom had now arrived). Told them I was not moving again, and requested they let me go home immediately. Long story short is the supervisor “allowed” me to stay in my own bed and while I did not get the medication to sleep, I will be happy to sleep tomorrow, at home, looking for any and every LIJ suit on the internet to tell them what their policies look like in real time.
Este hospital no deja de cobrarme una factura de laboratorio que fue pagada por mi seguro. He llamado y me dicen que solo ignore la factura que llega a mi casa pero ya me han mandado en 3 oportunidades l
Terrible hospital, staff members (not all) have attitude problems, others have no idea what they are talking about and the billing department is the most frustrating I have ever dealt with .
Hospital isn’t perfect but the staff (minus billing) were amazing. I had an outpatient surgery recently that went very well. Shout out to Dr. Bergstein, Dr. Grif, nurse Gina, nurse Katie, nurse Courtney, nurse Tim, nurse Trisha, and anyone I may have missed for their excellent care. They were right there for me the whole time and were super patient with my high anxiety and needle issues. Unfortunately the billing department is a different story. I got multiple calls from Phelps weeks before my surgery. I called back and thought everything was sorted. I didn’t realize the billing department called separately. They didn’t call me back for weeks until the day BEFORE my surgery. Worse, they over-quoted my procedure by several thousand dollars, causing me to panic. It still wasn’t resolved by the time I left. It was only resolved with an apology (which I appreciated) as I was waiting in the room for surgery. This could have been avoided by calling at least a few days before surgery.
I had a terrible experience during my two day admittance to Phelps. The staff were extremely unorganized and unable to adequately handle sick patients. As a patient myself, I had to yell down the hall multiple times for someone to come help a very ill person in the bed beside me. This was truly abominable. I understand being short staffed; however, a med-surge unit should have staff who are able to handle crises. The nurse acted like a deer in headlights. Also, the doctor’s bedside manner was horrible. I was awoken at 3:00 am by a doctor while I was out of it from sleep to push a procedure I felt was a money maker for the hospital. If you go to this hospital make sure you advocate for yourself. In my recent, experience the disorganization was frightening and I would never go there again for a serious health issue. I transferred to Greenwich Hospital and the care was night and day better. It’s a shame that Phelps isn’t doing more to better their patient experience and train their staff as other hospitals in the area are doing much better.
Never again. They did surgery on my Grandmother and had her take her expensive jewelry off that she’s had since she was young. They told her she will get it back when they are done and then told her they couldn’t find it a few hours later even though she had it right on top of the other 10 things they returned back. Probably stole her jewelry because they can’t afford it. Very heartbreaking and sad. They were very special to her and now they are gone forever. Really awful people out in this world.
I Thought it was Great. Just there for a test. Everyone was nice
The Phelps labor/delivery and postpartum teams are amazing! They clearly love what they do and treat their patients like family. I felt very well cared for and supported in aspiring for a low intervention delivery. And their lactation consultants are incredible — I was very taken aback to have lactation consultants available almost around the clock and think this was very helpful in setting us up for success in breastfeeding. L&D is under renovation and I’m sure will be even better once the tubs are available. Wonderful hospital experience!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
