List of John Mauro Do's Reviews
Mauro is a great surgeon and clinician – repaired both my eyes – nevertheless the practice was too "factory-like" for me, They are focused on volume and there is not enough personalized service. The practice is billed as one of the best on Long Island but .. . . . . .
I am always happy with my visit and with Dr Mauro. I am not happy that you charge $50 to get a prescription for my glasses. You are my eye doctor I shouldn't be joins $50 to get a prescription. I don't go to my primary care for a yearly visit or med check and he charges me extra to get my prescriptions I think that that is outrageous. It leaves me having to go to another ophthalmologist like Cohen to get a prescription that's covered under the insurance.
Dr. Mauro explains what’s happening with my vision in a way I can understand. As an older person, with many things going on with my eyes, he tells it like it is and keeps an ‘eye’ on all the possibilities for me.

Sight md in Smithtown NY is run like a clinic. Security signs you in to the waiting room where after a half hour wait they call you up to the desk. Then w you are taken to the back area where various techs do eye testing on you. When you ask about Dr Mauro you are told he will need the tests to see you. Then you are out in an 8 x10 room filled with patients waiting to see the same Dr. Appointments are made every 5 minutes. I had a 3:20 appointment. Two people next to me had a 3:10 and 3:15. After an hour and half wait there were 5 people ahead of me. I left without seeing Dr Mauro at 4:50.
Dr Mauro was almost finished with my yearly check up when he saw something wrong in one of the scans. He proceeded to tell me that I had a tear in my retina. I panicked, but he insisted I see a specialist the very next day, without going away on a trip I had planned. I was lucky enough to get an early appointment with the specialist and that doctor agreed with Dr Mauro’s findings. He immediately proceeded with a laser treatment and repaired my retina. I was shocked that at the end of the visit, I proceeded to go on my trip. If Dr Mauro hadn’t sent me to the specialist, I was told I could’ve gone blind. Thank God I listened to Dr Mauro. He is an amazing doctor “in my eyes”.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
