Had an MRI today. Registration was easy. Every staff member was extremely nice. MRI process was smooth and easy. Never waited more than a few minutes.
I work there, have not been a pt there, but I love my job and my providers!
It's 1:17 AM, and I've been here since 9:00 PM with extreme pain in my upper right abdomen, I know I have porcelain gallbladder, but this pain has been going on for almost 8 hours now! I have only gotten my vitals checked and have been sitting here unseen since. I am in an EMPTY waiting room and still haven't been seen, this is outright ridiculous. Please save your time and find your care elsewhere. The doctors are rude and act like there's nothing wrong with you, the nurses are stuck up and can't do their job, and obviously no one takes anything seriously around here. This is a joke!
The staff at this hospital lack professionalism and the critical soft skills to perform their job well. Communication is terse, lacks empathy and courteousness for the patients. For example, staff grimaced and rolled their eyes, spoke in rude tones and ignored patients.
You just might die in the waiting room before being seen at this ER. Go somewhere else.1st time I took my wife to the ER she was having an issue with not being able to stop bleeding and they didn't even do a blood test. The 2nd (and last time) she went for severe stomach pain she waited for 4 hours before we decided to go to a different ER.My brother-in-law has been waiting in the ER waiting room for 6 1/2 hrs now, and has been having a very hard time breathing. When I told the lady at the front desk she said a nurse will come check on his breathing. No one checked on him. He was called back about 10 minutes after I talked to the lady at the desk just to be told there are no beds. The hospital staff always seems to lack any sense of urgency.
We are sitting here waiting since around 8pm on 12/13/21 it is not almost 11. My husband has been vomiting continuously. The woman across from us has been here since 2:30 pm and hasn’t been seen yet. This is unacceptable and the new head of ER isn’t paying attention. What is the problem?
My husband went to ER, waited four hours after he told front desk symptoms he had. I was three hours away, called front desk to ask why he had not been seen yet as his symptoms sounded pretty serious. Veterans hospital told him to go to ER as he was closer to South Hill and needed immediate attention. After being checked in we told Dr we thought he had probably had a stroke. Dr kept insisting there was no way he had had a stroke, that it had been four hours and he didn't appear to have had a stroke, even though all symptoms were consistent with a stroke. Well, after tests and scans were done it turns out he had suffered a major stroke, and had scarring from a TIA in the past. We filed a complaint about the unprofessional treatment, and incompetence. Dr didn't speak English very well, was arrogant, and honestly, he appeared incompetent. We were told they would follow up with the complaint, we had enough to worry about, so we didn't speak to anyone about outcome of complaint after his discharge five days later. It's unbelievable that my husband waited over four hours after telling admissions about his diabetes, was having vision problems, and that the veterans hospital advised him to go to the ER based on his symptoms coinciding with those of a stroke, which he also detailed to the person doing intake. Hospital needs to hire qualified Drs. and admissions staff..
The old women at the front desk was very rude. 1st time there & I had no clue to the “rules” of that hospital. Seeing how I work at a hospital and neither one of the hospitals I work at will harass a person if they have to go to the bathroom. Gave this an extra star due to the fact they prioritize safety, regardless of the unprofessional attitude.
They are quickly to charge you for everything but when they owe you a refund it takes atleast 180 days after they approve your refund for you to receive it. They charged me co pay which I payed each visit but the incompetent receptionist sent my money to the old CMH fund in 2020. Now I've paid twice and won't get reimbursed until 2022. The outsourced payment system for 2 hrs. VCU is horrible
The professionalism at this facility is at an all time low. No consideration for patients and what they are experiencing. There is constant chatter in the ER triage with roaring laughter as if it’s a bar. Nurses walking around coughing. Physician assistants/ doctors we experienced were cold, not very empathetic at all. If you can drive to Richmond please do so. I’m unsure why they built this hospital to deliver subpar service probably because they are in a town of older individuals they feel they can do whatever they want. Had to go two days back to back for tests that could have been done in one visit if I had a competent individual. The nurse took her temperature wrong on top of that.My grandfather unfortunately has to use this facility and he’s waited over 6 hours more than once in the waiting room and they didn’t bother to check his vitals during the wait as they are supposed to. Someone is bound to sue them soon. By the look of the other reviews, just shut it down VCU. Don’t trust your loved ones with people at this facility.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
