'Twas the night before Christmas Eve and all through the house, not a creature was stirring not even a mouse...Until mom had to call 911 for my Dad. He is ok now, Thank God, and because this hospital is the best in Suffolk County. Sorry, not sorry... When I went to see him, three doctors were consulting over him. Their urgency and thoroughness was a relief and I'm grateful for the care my Dad received. Yes this is a teaching hospital, but these are the best hospitals, in my opinion. Parking is easy, although a bit pricey. You can get it validated if you end up in the ED. The parking garage is under construction, but what garage isn't annoying to navigate. Dad's stay has been long but every time I visit him, he tells me how nice everyone has been and how he feels like they are taking really good care of him. And after a tour of the ED, ICU and a general room I can safely say, I wouldn't be nervous if I ever ended up here. Dad's expected to come home today/tomorrow and we can't wait. But we are FORVER appreciative of all the people that helped get our Pop Pop back in one piece.
I had a great experience at this hospital. The nurses and doctors and took great care of me to get me back on my feet.
the labor & delivery nurses and pediatric staff at stonybrook are total b**ches excuse my language.. they are rude for no reason and have no compassion. witnessed it first hand while I was there how they would talk negatively about expecting mothers. such a shame. I used to love stony brook hospital for the care they provide.
What an experience. Dirty hallways, rude staff, bloodwork in hallway, never given a bed, felt more like I was in in-convincing the staffs personal conversations more than anything. Disgusting. Never again. Glad the staff got their Thai food while ignoring my needs.
If your kid needs emergency care, it's worth the drive out to Cohens or Winthrop. I've had two awful experiences with the pediatric ER. The most recent was so traumatic. I brought my 3 month old in as a precaution because he had a slight fever (per his PCPs advisement but man, never again will I be such an alarmist). It's worth noting I had covid at the time and I explained this to all of the staff while wearing a mask. It was midnight and I was exhausted myself. My husband was home with our other two children and because baby was nursing, I had to take him. Over the next 6 hours, they did multiple unnecessary tests and caused him such pain because they couldn't find a decent nurse to take blood or cath him. They tried so many times he was screaming for so long and they couldn't find his veins. At least 30 min straight. I finally told them to stop. Get someone else in who can find a vein/cath him or let us leave and his dr will see him tomorrow. Doctor comes in and tells me if he dies it's my fault for leaving and since I'm a neglectful mother, she's calling CPS. I explained that I never refused testing, their incompetent staff were unable to successfully test him. Social worker is sent in to determine if I'm a fit mother and now, with 0 sleep and still unwell myself I end up agreeing to let them try again with one of their seasoned nurses. Spoiler alert- she couldn't do it either. I told them fine call cps. As I'm awaiting discharge papers I can hear the nurses at the station laughing at me and calling us names. They never brought the discharge papers and I ended up leaving after 6 hours of torture with a traumatized baby. I cried for days at what I had allowed to happen to my baby. Never again. This place is a nightmare. Go to Cohens- I've only had to go once with my oldest and they were amazing. Professional, competent, and care for kids.
I never write reviews... I came here 2x in one week for the most extreme pain and sickness I have ever felt in my life. Was absolutely terrified. Asked for a scan on my head/neck and they told me no/it's unnecessary. Went back two days later and alerted them that CityMD wanted them to scan my head/neck and check for Lyme disease. Two staff members scoffed at me, told me I had a virus and to take Motrin and go home. Two days later I am sobbing in agony, go to Mather hospital, get a scan on my neck and a Lyme test--surprise, I have Lyme disease and a severe spinal injury in my neck. Thanks Stony Brook for your incompetence. Christ.
I came to this hospital once for myself and several times for others. Emergency room has very fast service in this hospital. Doesn't keep you waiting like others. When I came to this hospital during the time my ex grandma had pneumonia, one of the training nurses who was a student accidentally poked the needle into the wrong area of the arm and missed the vein. It must be very painful because this hospital is in conjunction with Stony Brook University so there must be a lot of students practicing. Then another time I came here for my ex grandpa and he was quarantined in a room by himself due to pneumonia. We were given face masks to wear before entering the room. During the time I went for myself, the nurse was very attentive to my needs. I complained how my left calf was in pain and felt really heavy so they ended up doing a veinous ultrasound on the calf to see if it was related to my heart or if I had a blood clot going on. They couldn't find anything and I was just frustrated. I went home with a still heavy leg and did not know what to do with it. Sucks that they did not know how to handle my heavy leg. Despite the doctors not knowing how to handle me, I still think this hospital has exceptional fast service.
this is a great hospital to visit IF you want to receive the worst quality care and enjoy being taken advantage of. you will be price gauged and receive unnecessary treatment so they can upcharge you. i came in for a pill being stuck in my throat. 20 unecessary blood tests later I received a bill for $1500. awful staff, corrupt enterprise/establishment. wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy - that's how bad it is.
Worst front desk hospitality i have ever seen in a hospital, hotel, probably anything outside of a prison. Been all over the world and this front desk entrance staff should be fires for their lack of COMPASSION in a HOSPITAL!!!!!!!! The worst experience I have ever had in regards to support staff and their department leadership. They don't care for patients only ur money. It was sad to see what was a great nurse waste her talents surrounded by people who serve to help people but don't care about the people they should help. No. 1 worst hospital I have been too from over 8 eights and 5 countries. Please save yourself and your family this experience. In this hospital especially the people in charge and the their command and controlfro t desk don't care about you or your family meaning the few good staff the hospital has left will either leave or conform to their money grab, who cares about the patient ideals. Go ANYWHERE ELSE!!!!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
