Dr. Shih had been wonderful in treating me for blocked arteries using stents. When there was still blockage he recommended that I contact a surgeon who has an excellent reputation. I did and had a double bypass operation which did much to save me from a heart attack or stroke. Dr. Shih visited me in the hospital and certainly added a lot to me getting well.

As a member of the health care profession myself and a senior citizen to boot, I am in a somewhat unique position to assess Dr. Shih's abilities and professionalism. I had a chance encounter with him as he was on duty at Good Samaritan hospital in Suffern when I was brought in by ambulance having suffered a heart attack. I had blockages in two main arteries that required a total of five stents which Dr. Shih implanted. That was over ten years ago and I have been a patient of his since. During that time I have been sent for several follow up tests by him as he saw fit, a few of them administered in his office. I have found Dr. Shih to be very knowledgeable, caring and never willing to let a sign or symptom go unaddressed if he felt the need. He also takes his time to explain anything that needs it as well as being a good listener and questioner. I have nothing but respect for him and his abilities and hope to be able to call him my cardiologist for some time to come.

Office staff is good, but the doctor doesn't listen to the patient, nor does he explain or probe further into the conditions. With patients who have chronic issues, he can be very dismissive. Leaving to find a cardiologist who wants to understand the patient's condition and look beyond whether he thinks his own answers are good when the outcomes are not.

Do not go to this office. Dr was unable to diagnose my dad's issue. The scheduler is nasty and rude. She is very unprofessional. They could not provide a heart monitor and did not have the correct phone number to another doctor they referred us to. They referred us to a new doctor who they don't even know.
