List of Richard J. Distefano's Reviews
Dr. Distefano performed back surgery on me 2 years ago and the results were excellent. I notice most of those who left bad reviews here had their feelings hurt from his abruptness in the office. I heard he is 'all business' thru the grapevine and that's just what you should be looking for if you need surgery. If you're looking for a 'happy visit' go see a comedian or psychologist. Dr. Distefano is an AWESOME surgeon.
If you're stationed at Fort Drum don't bother going to watertown. Take the drive! More providers, faster service, better communication, and amazing experience.
Dr. DiStefano fused my neck about 3 years ago. I need another fusion & obviously he will be the surgeon. In my opinion he is the best! My ex husband will possibly need surgery & I recommended Dr Richard DeStefano
This doctor has zero compassion and interest in his patients. When I was finally able to tell him where my pain was located he left the exam room for at most a minute to look at the xrays again, he came back and said I had arthritis in totally different discs from what the radiologist had read. When I asked what he would recommend for my treatment, he listed four or five options. I again asked him what he would recommend and got the same response. I left there totally frustrated and angry that I wasted my time with this appointment.
Find another doctor! This guy is a waste of time and money. Not sure if he is just in it to see home many patients he can see in one day or what but he needs a revolving door on his patient rooms....I went to see him for a new patient consult for my back issues that have been ongoing for 20+ years. He was arrogant, dismissive and didn't care to hear a word I had to say. He just cut me off any time I tried and told me it was not related to my back and sent me out the door in less than five minutes telling me to try physical therapy. As a new patient I would think he would want to hear maybe some history and what my symptoms are before pushing me out the door. I tried to dispute the $140 I had to pay him but I guess this is totally acceptable as far as he and SOS are concerned. LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES IN THE EXAM ROOM!

Let me tell you, I have taken my father to so many doctors in the last several years and this doctor is hands down the best. DiStefano knows what he's talking about and is caring and patient. Do not hesitate to choose Dr. DiStefano!
Dr DiStefano is probably the least compassionate doctor I have ever seen, especially at SOS! His bedside manner, and lack of interest in helping patients is disgraceful. He doesn’t listen AT ALL, he treats you as if you don’t know your own body, and basically neglects all measures of diligent care. Do not waste your time with this doctor, you WILL leave with no answers, and having to start over with a different physician. Disappointed is an understatement!
My experience with Dr DiStefano was the worst experience I have ever had with a physician. He is arrogant, dismissive, disrespectful, and lacks all interest in actually providing patient care! He doesn’t do his due diligence in reviewing reports, and acts like he can’t be bothered when you have questions. He suggested I see a pain clinic and get on some pain meds even after I told him I don’t take pain meds and have no interest in starting because my “three MRIs were not normal and there are issues, but he is a surgeon and he doesn’t feel the issues are surgical just yet, so treating me is a waste of his time and money”. Disgusting!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
