Sami Abdul Malak Md's Online Review Report Card

I accompanied my mom to her appointment with Dr. Abdul-Malak today and we were both EXTREMELY happy with the entire experience. His kind manner put both of us at ease. His adept skill at teasing out facts while asking the most delicate questions was invaluable. His physical examination was thorough and conducted with genuine care. Every person, from the receptionist, blood pressure, evaluation, to check-out was awesome! What a phenomenal group of healthcare professionals. Dr. Abdul-Malak and his team are truly a Syracuse Treasure.

I’m a fairly new patient of Dr. Malak. My impression is that he’s a patient, quiet and kind doctor. He’s easy to talk to and he listens to you. I like him much more than my previous neurologist. I would recommend this doctor to anyone looking for a good neurologist.

The worst! He was rude, crude, and condescending. Never read my file. When he stepped out to look at my MRI, he never came back. They said see in you in 6 months and I said for what?! Syracuse, NY - January 18, 2021

He was rude, crude, and condescending. Never introduced himself and didn't believe anything I told him. He asked if anyone had any tests done for me I said yes, you ordered an MRI. He stepped out to look at the MRI and never came back!! They said he will see you in 6 months. I said for what?!

Malak did not read my husbands chart or take the requested paper work that we filled out(never even looked at it-left it on the counter even after the visit was over), was rude, disrespectful, and told him nothing was wrong with him. -- My husband has another neurological surgeon waiting to do surgery! Malak's office called and rudely disrespectfully the nurse (speaking to me like I was some kind of criminal) told us Malik would not see us anymore because there was nothing wrong with my husband?! But the neurological surgeon wants to do the surgery as soon as we are ready! We also had another doctor review x-rays and see abnormalities! Malak needs to retire!

I came to Dr Malak with nerve issues (paresthesia), verified by GP, rheumatology, and orthopedist. He took one look at an old MRI and said I was fine. Ordered another MRI of a different location and scheduled a follow up. He was 60 minutes late to the appointment, walked in, asked "can you live with this? then you graduated from me." He spent 10 seconds with me and ushered me out the door. Meanwhile, my nerve pain / numbness worsens. My rheumatologist is aghast that I was treated this way by a neurologist who said, "there really isn't such thing as 'nerve' pain." Though again, confirmed by 2 specialists and a GP. Blood tests are a bit off, he said this wasn't his specialty - I should talk to GP about that. I feel that inflammation levels that are high WOULD be part of a neurological workup (it was with my last retired neuro) but hey, who knows. I'm getting a referral to another neurologist who has interest in the nervous system, as this was recommended by all of my other specialists. Being brushed off by a doctor who would rather say "go to the ER" (which I did, they said that I needed to be seen by my neurologist) than try to find a cause for your discomfort is not my idea of patient care.

I have never come across a doctor who was even remotely close to as pompous, arrogant, condescending, rude and unprofessional. He insisted the first year that I was seeing him, that there was nothing wrong with me....so in other words, I’m faking.. however, I found a different type of doctor that was actually talented enough to figure out that I have an autoimmune disease. Years later I go to him, desperate for answers regarding severe pain in my neck. He sat there staring at me with a smirk on his face, and said, why are you moving around like that. It was because I was in so much pain that I couldn’t sit still. Then he says that he’ll get in touch with my pain doctor, they collaborated and came to the conclusion that I have SOMATIZATION DISORDER. If you don’t know what it is, you should look it up in case he is nasty enough to give you a permanent label of being a faker. Meanwhile, I was sitting there not knowing that I actually had a fractured lamina in my neck, as well the main nerve running from my neck down my arm was clamped in between two vertebrae. You don’t have an ounce of compassion, you shouldn’t be a doctor, or at least not have any interaction with patients. I could go on and on about how horrible you are but I’m probably running out of space.

The first time seeing this Dr. and the very first thing he said to me "what do you want"? He never said hello or introduced himself to me. Acted like I was an inconvenience. Would not except my diagnosis from two other Neurologist. Totally blew off my symptoms as if they were nothing. His summary report from my visit was 90% wrong. His report said I denied any problems or pain etc. Totally wrong. It also said no hearing problems. What? I need two hearing aids(this has been confirmed). Condescending attitude. Never again.

I highly recommend this specialist. He listens to your concerns, answers questions, and is very open-minded. He's not afraid to pull out a medical reference book if your case involves rare conditions. If you've got migraines, vertigo, processing issues this is the doctor you want.
