Dr. Alkin’s cared about my health and made sure I suceeded

I’ve been seeing him for a year and find him knowledgable, personable, a very good listener, and explains everything thoroughly. I’m so so happy to now have a pulmonologist who cares, works with me, and is very knowledgeable.

I see Dr. Alkins for a serious pulmonary problem. I like him. He's always listens to my concerns and answers my questions. My only complaint is, he's the only Crouse Pulmonologist in Syracuse. It's very hard to get an appt. if you need to see him before your scheduled appointment. Since his practice went to Crouse Practice, he can't admit you or see you in the hospital. I don't like that idea at all and that rule goes for all Crouse Practice doctors. Who knows you better than your own doctor.

Dr. Alkins is extremely nice. Everything a doctor should be: knowledgeable, friendly, thorough.

Dr Alkins treats me like I have a life to live. I had other Drs dismiss me like my life was over. Can’t trust someone who thinks I’m dying, not living. Dr Alkins is thorough, he listens intently and patiently. He has pointed out other issues that weren’t his specialty. He asks about ALL issues, not just pulmonary. He follows up personally on issues

Had my first appointment with Dr. Alkins this morning. I found him very personable, caring, helpful and a good listener. Unlike my former pulmonologist he took my concerns about constant fatigue seriously. He made several suggestions including a possible change in my bp medication, plus is referring me for sleep study. I feel confident that he will continue to work with me until this problem is resolved. I will certainly recommend him to friends seeking a pulmonologist.

He is clueless when it comes to serious medical conditions. I was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's. 1/4-1/3 of Parkinson's patients have sleep disorders. I have REM Behavior Disorder, and had it years before the P diagnoses, and he never discussed it after my sleep study. Getting my sleep medicine from him was like pulling teeth because he didn't believe I had real issues. Doctors like him who don't listen to their patients make me very upset. I don't see him anymore.

Spent very little time or effort treating me for insomnia. After three visits and yet another overnight sleep study, he had the nerve to say "Well I've done everything I can do". I reminded his he didn't really do anything and heard "We'll have to agree too disagree on that".

Disappointed. Dr. Alkins was recommended from the Crouse Sleep Lab to see regarding insomnia I have been dealing with for some time. After three appointments over six months, another unneeded polysomnogram, he recommended a very minor tweak in my BiPAP machine setting. When I attempted to re-focus the discussion from apnea back to insomnia, the conversation was dismissed. This was followed by a "we'll see you again in a year to see how it's going". There may be areas he's good with but not sleep

You should know before hand that Dr Alkins requires TWO sleep study OVER NIGHTS. The second night you wear a sleep mask that may or may not fit, as not much time is taken. You are awoken at 5:00 am to leave. The valet parking is out of doors, 2 blocks away, in winter it is dark and at 5:30 am there may not be an attendant to get your car. So, I as a woman alone had to walk alone in the dark, brush off a huge amount of snow to get my car, constantly looking around to make sure no one jumped me. You are SHOWN on the second night but not given a list of medical equipment places and told, in writing, that if you don't choose one right away, you'll be assigned one that may not be near where you live. When I asked for a copy, I was told that they didn't have a copy machine.
