Dr. Alan Wachtel is, simply put, the best mental health professional I've had the pleasure of seeing. My parents first brought me to see Dr. Wachtel when I was in elementary school. Over 15 years later, I am still his patient. With Dr. Wachtel's help, I was able to succeed in a demanding high school, excel at a top ranked liberal arts college. I am now in my second year of professional school at an Ivy League university. Thanks to Dr. Wachtel, I am at the top of my class and I am making strides towards achieving my dream career. I have always been happy with the medications and advice that Dr. Wachtel has provided. Moreover, he taken my needs and concerns seriously. He is kind, compassionate, and enthusiastic when it comes to caring for his patients. I can't recommend him strongly enough to any parents of children or adolescents (or even young adults) who are struggling with issues such as ADHD, anxiety, and depression.
My family has relied on Dr. Alan Wachtel's services for years. Dr. Wachtel has an abundance of experience, wisdom, and compassion for his patients and their family members. He is a leader and innovator in the field of Psychiatry. The practice is run by pleasant and efficient staff. Best practice!!!!
I would like to add my hearty and healthy endorsement of Family Health Associates and Dr. Alan Wachtel. This team of professionals is not only among the world's finest and brightest in their field but also have the added difference that they take a total view of their patients health. In short, if I were an individual who wanted to get a thorough and complete diagnosis that was then followed through with being placed on the optimal medication for my needs, I would start here first. They have made a world of difference in my life.
Dr. Wachtel & all of the physicians at Family Health Associates are smart, caring and knew exactly what was going on from the beginning. I am doing great under their care and highly recommend this practice.
Dr Wachtel is very professional and easy for may son to speak with. He is understanding and listening to what my son says.
I saw Dr. Wachtel in his White Plains office at one point and found him to be quite uncaring. He seemed to be nodding off at one point of our appointment but then excused himself to go to the bathroom. He came back with rapid speech and his eyes looked glassy. I suspect that he may have problems of his own.
Dr. Wachtel is highly experienced and a master at providing high quality psychiatric care. He really took the time to dig into what the issues were and address them carefully to ensure the patient was properly cared for. We appreciate his depth of knowledge and high level of care. We highly (and often!) reccomend him.
If you want your child to have a drug problem and get addicted to pills, this is the doctor for you. My parents sent me to him as a child and my life affected by him being a garbage doctor to this day. Run, don't walk away from him.
Perhaps the worst psychiatric encounter I've had. On top of the price -- $1200. an hour!!!!! which is way out of common practice, when Dr. Whachtel treated my son he misdiagnosed him, perscribed the wrong medicine, and then when my son developed a life-threatening reaction from the medication, he never called to check back. Even my pharmacist complained over having to deal with him, "never experienced anything like it," he told me. Thankfully, I work at Columbia University, and was able to contact an excellent doctor through their recommendation. Go anywhere else.
I can highly recommend Family Health Associates and Dr. Alan Wachtel, who along with his staff very effectively and professionally treated my adolescent son. And I myself have been under Dr. Wachtel's care for the past several years, and I can say that he has made a huge positive difference in my life; I - and my family - would not consider going anywhere else!
Dr. Wachtel's assistance and advice has been invaluable to us.
My son has ADHD and is going through all that comes along with that. From attention hurdles to academic retention and impulse control. I can work for days, weeks, months to try to uncover the trigger or reasons why a behavior is happening/-and then we make an appointment with Dr Wachtel and 15 minutes later he’s figured out what’s motivating him to act, how we can feed him in a way to help with energy and comfort his confusion about all his body is going through at 11. I can’t recommend him enough.
If you or a someone you care about needs to get properly treated by a REAL doctor who actually cares about listening to you, avoid this practice at all costs. He charges $1,200 for a consultation, doesn’t take insurance, and keeps track of the time down to the last 2 seconds. His practice is beyond unprofessional. I've sat in the waiting area and witnessed clinicians talking about patients openly to front desk staff, more specifically one clinician fighting with front desk staff about receiving payment because this patient is “surely rich and can afford it.” He’s big on pushing meds and less about listening to you. He's not concerned about your well being, he's a businessman first and second a doctor. If you do end up at this practice, I have seen Dr. Escalan and he’s incredible and actually cares to listen, but more importantly, he cares.
I saw him many years ago. He's good. But I find it very odd that when you are paying (he used to charge an exorbitant amount of money) so much to see a psychiatrist in private practice that you need to wait way past your appt time. And although the sessions were supposed to be 45 minutes he almost always cut them short and still charged the same. I was just a teenager. I wouldn't deal with that now. He really likes to prescribe pills!
DO not send your child here for testing. I had two of my children tested, for 4k each. The Doctor, no longer there, was very nice but took over 4-5 months to complete testing, which impacted my child's IEP and then there were errors on the reports, even in many cases another child's name in the place of my child. When I went to have Dr. Wachtel fix the reports I had a very hard time.
Very knowledgable about ADD. Helped my daughter who was struggling with school. So grateful.
Courteous and welcoming office. My kids actually enjoy going here. Dr. Wachtel is an expert in his field. Well worth the money.
He has ADD tunnel vision. If you come in with a broken leg, he'll convince you that you (and probably other family members) should all be treated for ADD by him and his therapy staff. He is VERY EXPENSIVE and too busy drumming up new business. He never refers out to another doctor if it isn't his area of expertise, or suggest a consultation.. His assessments are often superficial, and he doesn't properly reassess over time to check if the patient has changed or if he had it wrong. He missed some serious problems, and my relative got much sicker without the critical early interventions and help.
But when I saw Dr. Wachtel in High School he seemed to be a big pill-pusher. Very heavy-handed with the drugs. Also, he's expensive, and sometimes he didn't give me the full appt. time. Felt ripped off when that happened.
this dr. is only interested in money. he does not care about patients at all. i would rather have my children or myself treated by a dr. that got his degree online
