Haven’t seen the doctor yet which is why I’m not rating fewer stars. The receptionist was atrociously rude.

Dr Gulotta is the best shoulder surgeon and a very compassionate doctor dedicated to his work and patients

DrGulotta did a total should replacement for me. I Dr Gullotta and his staff very nice and professional . After 14 months I am very pleased with the out come. In closing I would like to give a Big Thanks to the all nurses and watt of the Hospital of Special Surgery ,Thank you again

After a serious fall where I suffered a massive rotator cuff tear including complete (full thickness and full width) retracted tears of the supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendons, I was tasked with finding the best surgeon to attempt a repair or do a total reverse shoulder replacement. I consulted and interviewed four well known surgeons on the east coast for their opinions on how to proceed. Dr Gulotta was the only one who suggested to attempt a repair and then if it was not going to be successful to abort the procedure and do a reverse replacement a couple of days later. He clearly explained that it was unknown how the repair would go until he attempted it, but it was the best option for me if it could be successful. Unfortunately when he attempted the repair he realized it was not going to be successful, and we did the reverse replacement 3 days later. The surgery went very well and I had real pain only on the first day (which was well controlled with a narcotic). Although It was difficult sleeping, (get a recliner chair to help with that) remarkably there was really no pain after the first day and I did not use narcotics going forward. I started physical therapy 2 weeks later and was very diligent in doing the exercises as I wanted to get back to playing golf. I was told I could possibly play in about 5 months. Well, not trying to break any records, I had my surgery on 2/6/20 and I was on the golf course on 5/1/20 when it reopened in NY from the pandemic. Remarkable: 88 days after surgery I was swinging my sticks. Yes, it was a little painful and as I look back, I may have overdone things slightly, but today, exactly 5 months after the surgery, I am playing golf 4-5 times a week without pain and playing back to my lower handicap. I am still doing PT because my insurance allows it, and my therapist is still expanding my range of motion and building up more strength in the muscles. So all in all Dr. Gulotta did an awesome job, far better than I ever imagined and I am back to living my life as if nothing really happened! He is very skilled, compassionate and just an overall great shoulder surgeon. Additionally, HSS is a terrific facility: they have a super low infection rate which is Sooo important in this kind of surgery and they have an amazing staff. Making me stay overnight to get IV antibiotics was well worth the time to help reduce that infection rate. I can't thank Dr. Gulotta and the entire HSS team enough for how they helped me. Lastly I will add that I am a physician and one that is not easily impressed, but this was just a truly wonderful experience, far exceeding my expectations.

Its been only 8 weeks since shoulder replacement and already have more mobility in my shoulder than i had in 5 years. All the pain i experienced before the surgery gone i can finally raise my arm over my head with little effort i owe it all to dr gulotta the whole process from start to finish hospital, hospital staff ,his personal staff #1

Flat out the best shoulder surgeon around

Dr. Gulotta is probably the best shoulder surgeon in the country...great results for a shoulder replacement with a 100% return to full activity and no more pain. I recommend him and his wonderful staff highly with no reservations...

Re: Labral tear Although we live in Chicago, we knew we needed to go to Dr. Gulotta when our son tore his labrum.
