He's a GUARDIAN ANGEL 😇 BLESSED AND HIGHLY FAVORED !! So grateful to have him has done marvelous work on my back. Thank you DR CASTIGLIA 🏆🎗️
He preformed surgery on my spine in my neck. I consider him a miracle worker. He's very nice, not much for conversation but he is amazing as a surgeon. I think the world of him.
He saved my life
I cannot imagine why this man deliberately lied not only to my dying mother, but the entire family regarding her condition after spinal cancer surgery, when we told him numerous times we just wanted the cold, hard facts. Out of state family wanted to see her if she was dying, but he said "Tell them to stay put. She'll be fine. We'll send her to rehab in a couple of weeks." 3 days later she was dead, full of cancer and we later obtained records to verify it. My only conclusion is that he didn't want to be bothered. He may have skills as a surgeon, but none as a compassionate human being. He destroyed any faith I had in the medical profession.
This doctor fused my vitibre crooked causing permanent nerve damage and requiring me to search for 3 years till I found a doctor willing to try to fix his screw up. My back and legs will never be the same. This man ruined my life and now I am permanently disabled. I highly recommend Dr Rogers in Buffalo. He did my repair surgery and at least I am no longer totally bed ridden. I have 3 other people I know who also had failed surgeries by this doctor. Do not let him touch you.....
Was very honest with decision as to why surgery was needed. Was very happy with seeing PA after surgery. But did need a little more encouragement as to problems after surgery. Otherwise very happy with Dr Castiglia. Very friendly, caring, informed my family after surgery with all details.
I am so grateful for Dr. Castiglia. He was able to remove an egg sized tumor (craniopharyngioma) from the center of my brain, and I am recovering well. He was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and caring. He patiently listened to all of my questions and answered them all until I understood everything well. In short, I owe my life to this man. He saved my life and I have fewer hormonal problems post surgery than most. I highly recommend Dr. Castiglia, He is awesome!
On 10/9/05 I was the victim of a gunshot. Through my skull. Not a grazing wound . I was shot just above and behind my right ear and the .45 caliber bullet exited through the back of my skull leaving a peach pit size hole just barely missing the vision center. I was rushed into surgery to remove a skull fragment that lodged approximately 4 inches inside my brain. Dr Castiglia performed that trauma surgery. I was..... Not living an ideal life at the time and I'm sure it was obvious to all involved that had they just let me die it wouldn't have been any unexpected loss to anyone. Including myself. I must agree that his bedside manner was.... Non existent. But , I wasn't there for coddling. The fact that he not only saved my life that day , but did a STELLAR job of it should speak for itself. The fact that I am able to see and hear today is amazing! I never got the opportunity to sincerely thank him .If you should ever be in need of a neurosurgeon (not a therapist) Dr Castiglia is the one you want to perform it.
This man put my family through absolute misery and we were unable to sue because we ran out of time due to NYS statutes. He lied to a dying family member who was terminal, claiming she had years to live and forced her into painful physical therapy 3 times a week as her bones were breaking from being covered in cancer. Thankfully another doctor stepped in and was honest. I wouldn't trust him with a goldfish let alone a human.
The doctor is great, if you can see him. The practice is overbooked so they are seeing 60 plus patients per day. I developed a serious cervical spine problem, out of the blue, something gave way, couldn't hold my head up. I called and called and got the run around. I had my primary order the Cervical MRi and then spoon fed it to the office, begging for a review so I would know what to do next. Continued to be in agonizing pain for days, and nurse claimed there was no problem with Cervical MRI (I have collapsed spine), and so I know the doctor didn't look at it. She then threw meds at me, such as muscle relaxers, which I am already on. I told her I was in agonizing pain. Apparently, English isn't English, and nobody cares. I see him for lower back issues, but can't get him for the upper spine. What's up with that? Nurses and PA's should not be self assessing a medical situation. She literally told me I had a muscle spasm and she could order therapy. I'm like, lady, I can't drive, I can't stand, I can't hold my head up. Therapy? Seriously?
I was rushed to the emergency room at ECMC with a fractured skull. Dr. Castiglia and his team were called in to perform surgery and did an amazing job. The ease I felt in the state I was in from what I perceived as their competence, knowledge and ability gave me faith that everything was going to work out. The care I received from them during surgery, post-surgery and in the weeks following was top-notch. I would highly recommend this surgeon and his team to anyone.
Fantastic, god b y
This guy is giving epidurals in his office without X-ray equipment. In my case, this resulted in an injection into the spine instead of the offending disk and left me with a dural puncture headache, an inability to hold up my head, and infection. I contacted the office repeatedly for days and could not get a response from anyone but a nurse, who made every excuse under the sun. I could easily have died, particularly when a nurse, who apparently doesn't have any training, makes statements that my severe pain was unrelated to the epidural, when this is a known complication. I didn't know that an X-ray machine should be used to prevent possible misplacement of the needle, which can cause not only brain aneurisms but paralysis. I can't explain my pain, but I can say, never again. Find a doctor who doesn't take short cuts. These guys are playing fast and loose.

Like many of the neurosurgeons in the Buffalo area, does not consider what the neurologist and neuroradiologists diagnose and recommend. Horrible medical exam in office. (except by his mid level - which was excellent. However, he did not consider her exam) His neurological exam was terrible, he had his mind made up before he walked into the room based on his opinion of the MRI images. I was trained NEVER treat based on medical equipment - treat the PATIENT. A foreign concept to him. AVOID!!!
After being misdiagnosed for 6 months by not only Dr Castiglia but a number of other MDs, i finally went in for microdiscectomy and fusion, woke up and couldn't move my legs, 3 weeks later the same procedure was done because he left a piece of disc in the front area of my spine, still couldn't move my legs. I was told it was because of swelling in my spinal cord. I spent 3 months in the hospital trying to get my legs to work again to no avail. It has been 2.5 years and I am still in a wheelchair
I would never willingly return to this office. The office staff is absolutely horrendous. I have encountered them three times and by the third time I was ready to explode. they do not do their jobs of getting paperwork situated in the patients best interest. The nurse practitioner came in place of the doctor telling me what my problem was without even looking at my chart. She had no idea I had scoliosis. I will not be returning or recommending this facility to anyone.
Dr. Castiglia has cared for me for approximately 14 years. He performed successful cervical surgery on me & has managed the pain & disability associated with multi-level disc disease with kindness & compassion. His staff is just as understanding & caring as Dr. Castiglia. Without his caring intervention my life would be intolerable. I have recommended him to both family members & friends, who have found tremendous help for their back problems. I was seen by several other so-called excellent neurosurgeons before finding Dr. Castiglia, & none provided any treatment that gave relief. Dr. Castiglia is the kindness & most respectful neurosurgeon I have ever met. He will not push his patients into unnecessary surgery & is always willing to answer queztions.
I have found my experiences exceptional with dr. Castiglia. I've learned more about my condition with complete expanations for.me to best understand it in my first 2 visits than I did with my prior doctor in 8years time! The office staff is wonderful, kind and understanding, I have never waitied more than 10minites to be seen for my appt. I would highly reccomend him to others. Very professional. I'm so appreciative to have been able to get relief of my pain.
