All I can say he was amazing
I was very disappointed. He has good bedside manners but that's it. The first time I saw him he told me I had residual inflammation from a staph infection and prescribed me prednisone. I saw him for a follow up 3 weeks later. Literally didn't help at all. Just said that he couldn't identify what neurological problem I was having. I don't have a problem with him not prescribing anything but he didn't order a nerve conduction test, blood test, or anything.
Not sure where these negative reviews are coming from. It was my first time seeing him. He was very thorough and caring. Did a full neurological test. He prescribed me prednisone but consulted an on site ENT before doing so and explained my entire condition and story to the ENT.
TERRIBLE DOCTOR! DO NOT SEE THIS DOCTOR! He sat on his computer the entire time of our appointment. He examined me for all of 5 minutes with minimal, thoughtless checks. Then he diagnosed me with all kinds of outrageous ailments which only a doctor with a long history with a patient would begin to even think about. I found this doctor in the yellow pages (no referral). I understand why it was so easy to get an appointment with him, because he is horrible and no one else goes to see him. Horrible and not knowledgeable. I will never go back. I caution others not to go to him either. Go to a doctor on whom you have received a referral. NEVER go to a yellow pages doctor.
I went to two neurologists in the East Bay before seeing Dr. Collins. I have a neurological sleep disorder. One of the two doctors gave me a medication that is very addicting, which I could feel myself and could verify through online research, and is also not the first course of treatment for my condition. When I told the doctor about it, he said "No, it's not addicting." I left for another neurologist, who prescribed something that is more standard for my condition, but in my case (and that of many others) it caused basically a manic episode. I told the doctor about this, and he basically told me "No, that doesn't happen," even though I could see a lot of reports of this in the mainstream media and I was later part of a class action suit because of this side effect. I then found Dr. Collins, and what a relief! He prescribed a drug "cocktail" that helps me sleep and avoids the nasty side effects of the second drug I was taking. He also confirmed that the first drug I took is addicting. I find Dr. Collins to be very pleasant to deal with. Sometimes his office is hard to reach, and he previously had someone at the front desk who could be unpleasant, but she is gone now. I've been seeing Dr. Collins for over five years now but unfortunately now I need to find a new neurologist because of insurance plan changes.
MY wife visited Dr. Collins in San Ramon on November 11 for an physical exam which was done thoroughly by him and an assistant. Dr. Collins requested an additional exam by another department there at the San Ramon facility even though my wife had the same test done the previous September. My wife called 4 times to schedule an appointment prior to having the test he required so she could get the results. No one ever responded to her to give an appointment. Since the 2-8-16 test my wife has repeatedly called both offices to schedule. She got a March 2 appointment that was cancelled about the day prior due to the Doctor's illness. In attempts to reschedule, his office staff at both locations either do not answer the phone or fail to answer or respond to our messages. Even our personal physician has extreme difficulty with his staff not answering the phone especially in the San Ramon office. In the last 4 weeks my wife has suffered multiple debilitating stress events partially attributed to Dr. Collins' office staff. This review is mainly for the office staffs at both locations.
We scheduled an appointment 3 weeks in advance. Arrived ten minutes early and were given a stack of forms to complete. Some of these were detailed questionnaires. We completed the forms and turned them in to the receptionist. We then waited 30 more minutes to be seen. Dr. Collins said because it took so long to complete the paperwork it would shorten the consultation time. I asked why the paperwork couldn't be mailed in advance or patient' informed there was extensive paperwork to complete before appointment time. He didn't answer my question but, to his credit, he did complete a full consultation.
Dr.Collins is an excellent doctor. He takes his time to listen to you and address all of his patients concerns. Today was my first time meeting him and I will recommend him to anyone in search of a great neurologists.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
